They weren't demanding a veto-they couldn't veto it if they wanted. In the case of Scotland, the Sewel convention expects MPs to canvas the view of MSPs before legislating on devolved matters, expressed through a legislative consent motion. This is the crux of the matter, withholding consent is not the same as blocking.

Increasingly i feel the UK is a very selfish place. More and more it's shown that most people here don't care about others, they distrust others, as long as they have a house and some shitty reality TV to watch, some foreigners to hate on, they are content. Only their life matters, and fuck everyone else, is the UK mantra for the majority of people. They don't care about helping anyone else but themselves. Almost everyone i speak to has a life goal of being a BTL tycoon and charging as much rent as they can get away with for 'extra income'.
And it's not just the people. The government does it too. I just don't want to live in a country that doesn't care about others and only themselves to this extent. The current and past governments have done massive damage to the poor, the disabled, kids coming out of care, views on immigration to name just a few, and their popularity has gone up despite this because they gave people £10 a month more on their pay and have made some moves to get rid of them foreign lot.
They are spoon fed opinions from media owned by less than a handful of people who don't even live here, and they suck it up. Austerity was total bullshit that every serious economist disagreed with, but they did it anyway and lied to us about it till people supported it. Now that there are so few media, they tend to follow party lines strongly - never in decades of my lifetime have I seen such vitriol and hatred directed at the opposition, i can almost see the tory party hand up the arse of most newspapers these days - nevermind all the murdoch owned stuff as well.
I want my country to be a nice place for everyone to live, but increasingly I feel like i'm totally alone is this opinion. Too many 'i'm alright screw you' people , and not enough compassion. Too many rich elite controlling our media and our political landscape. Too little hope for it ever changing.
Jaxson Wright

Someone was going to do it. They needed someone to make "Mummy May" look like the good guy fighting for our democratic mandate.
Liam Cox
The part that bugs me is that it took seven fucking months for the supreme court to come up with this decision. Seven months to decide to let someone else decide. I understand leaving the EU is a process, but it hasn't even begun yet.
I hate this artificially padded out stuff, how much can the supreme court possibly be doing to take this long to make a decision? And why can't such a huge, globally followed case be moved up in the docket?
Expressing my frustrations with the US supreme court here too.
Aaron Wood
I moreso meant the last couple of threads. This one was a lot more fun than usual anyway.
Landon Smith
>I cannot see them blocking anthing It is all very well having a popular vote to leave. But Parliament, the legal system, the diplomatic service, the civil service and the BBC are *all* deeply opposed to our exit. They all know that open opposition to the referendum result, of the sort that David Lammy foolishly voiced in June, will get them nowhere. They will just look like bad losers and cheats.
They have learned, with a few exceptions, what Mrs May (for whom politics is a profession without any other aim than survival and success, as far as I can see) realised from the start. That they must say over and over again that Britain *is* leaving the EU. What is more, they must achieve a settlement which can be presented as a British departure.
But like all serious politicians, they know that victories are often only achievable if they are disguised as defeats. Let the other guy (if he is thick) believe he has won. Leave the other guy (if he is clever) free to *claim* he has won, even if he knows in his heart he has lost. But slog away, in the committee rooms and the late-night trades, for what you want. That is why so much can be achieved, in politics as in life, by those who don’t want public credit for their achievements.

Yesterday there were a bunch of people literally saying there's point in saying please and thank you to strangers. I blame immigration, it's torn apart our community bonds

No - I voted Leave too.
Those complaining about the Supreme Court judgement are just as bad as those calling for a 2nd referendum.
It shows contempt for our constitution.
Plus, our so-called opposition have said they won't frustrate it. If Parliament were to vote against it, it would probably be dissolved and those MPs would never be elected again, which won't happen since most of them are career politicians.
Ayden White
