I grew up a secularist home with college professor, pot smoking hippies for parents. They always told me that religion was a means to oppress the working class, and that it's all fairy tales.
That being said, I have never attended church and have never read the bible. What can I do to learn more about it?

You're right, but Jesus was a concept coined as a way of freedom from the concept of original sin - He freed all of mankind from the bondage of original sin as coined by the priest class of the time who deemed that all people from birth owed to the temple simply by existing within their operating kingdom.

Jesus was a very wise and great teacher. He also probably never existed. The bible is worth studying and learning about, but it's important to acknowledge your own limitations. IE you can't "know" if any of the claims are true, so if you think they are based on the book alone, you're an irrational fuck.
