He was idealistic but that shit was quickly snuffed out of him when the people that he arrested and booked was out on the street to be arrested again (by him) before he even got of his shift. If the justice system doesn't punish and put away the people the police catch then obviously they will become demoralized and feel that their work is absolutely worth fuck all, especially since their paycheck also says it worth nothing.
