Ideally that'd be the case, but when you get married, it is recognized by the state as a contract. When either partner cheats, it's a violation of that contract. Not to mention, there's very little penalty if a woman cheats, but a man will lose half his assets and children if he does.

I find it hard to believe when compared to my domestic legislation that considers only means and assets attained through work at the time of the couple's relationship as common posessions up for division, including mortgage repayments; any means and assets accumulated prior to the beginning of the relationship belong to their respecitve parties and are not considered common posessions and neither do inheritances regardless when they come into posession of one of the partners (before or during the relationship, doesn't matter)
