Fivethirtyeight put the odds at like 1:4 for Trump. Him winning by a margin of 80k votes spread out over three key states and still losing the popular vote by millions of votes doesn't really contradict the polls, it just shows that polls can't predict the future especially when the race is extremely close.
But unlike election polling, approval rating polls aren't being used as predictions of what people will do in the future, they're assessments of what people feel in the present.
The "muh polls" argument is just Sup Forums burying its head in the sand to the reality that Trump is unpopular. It would be a much better look to just own that reality.
