For example, a thorium test reactor based on a liquid suspension of thorium in flouride salts would be WAY better for the economy and american people in the long term, than just disposing of our fluoride reserves in the municipal water supplies.
Considering that thorium nuclear reactors are safer, have more practical applications, and more nuclear fuel available than Uranium nuclear reactors, and also they produce FAR less hazardous nuclear waste than Uranium nuclear reactors, I'd say that a research program for the purpose of creating Thorium/Fluoride based nuclear reactors is in the best interests of the country, and world.
The only thing Thorium reactors CAN'T do, is be used to create nuclear weapons.

And thorium fluoride salt reactors are safer than that.
