I'm studying the Gospels and I think I'm turning into a Christian. Jesus' teachings are still incredibly relevant today if you consider that he was a man that lived 2 thousand years ago. Maybe he wasn't the son of God, but nobody at the time was capable of teaching such compassion and kindness.
What I want to ask you Sup Forums is: If I officially become a Christian, what branch of Christianity should I adopt? What are the pros and cons of being a Catholic or a Protestant?
>Jesus' teachings are still incredibly relevant today quote some
this is now a Sup Forums bible discusion thread

unless you accept Jesus as your lord and savior, and believe that God raised him from the dead, it doesn't really matter

Pick Orthodoxy. It is how the religion was originally practiced.

I would love to, but I don't know them in English
Lucas Thompson
What do you mean by that? What's the way Christianity is practiced today and how was it is practiced by Orthodoxes?
Jaxson Brooks
The true path is Messianic Judaism. I realize how unpopular a viewpoint that is here.
Consider the following:
Jesus was in the temple on Hannukah
Nowhere is it stated it is ok to eat pork after Leviticus bans it
Jesus observed all the lord's feasts and didn't celebrate his own birth or ressurection.
Easter and Christmas ARE and ALWAYS HAVE BEEN pagan
Praying for you.

Orthodoxy is the original Christianity. Catholics and Protestants practice a version were certain specific customs have been changed (doctrine hasn't changed too much though), specially Protestantism. If you want a more authentic version of Christianity than you should be orthodox. You can look up the detailed differences.
A Catholic will tell you the same thing. Catholicism and Orthodoxy are the two to look into. I'm personally looking into Catholicism.

Orthodoxy obviously, Catholicism is the version for the masses.

Catholic will not tell you the same, I only see Americans claim that. >Byzantine/greek christianity >orthodoxy is just called pravoslavie >a part of the church starts makign reforms >the people who now call themselves orthodox are against those reforms because they want to keep the rituals (obryad) the way they are >Catholic means universal (plebified) / orthodox means true to the source.

Acts 10:10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, 11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: 12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
>don't call WHAT GOD HAS CLEANED 'common', i.e. dirty goy food >GOD HAS CLEANED

I was originally atheist because my parents were irreligious and my Anglican school just seemed like BS. Never hated religion, but I became a militant atheist after high school because I read Dawkins and watched Hitchens, also I worked in a couple of Bangladeshi restaurants and saw Muslims up close (some of the westernised ones were okay, but it was obvious that these people are unhealthy fora country in large doses). Basically became a militant rationalist, had no time for spiritual nonsense.
Discovered mediation while living in Germany because there is a yoga class at the gym I was going to. Discovered Buddhism, the truths made sense to me. Become abstinent and vegan. After one year think fuck this, become Satanist.
I realise now that the Buddhism was the recognition that there are spiritual truths, same with the satanism except they were about me looking out for myself and admitting that parts of my inner nature were also righteous and true.
Finally Gnosticism brought it altogether for me. You have to do yoga or at least, you have to come to the truths yourself. You have to become like Christ.
The church omitted some very important texts that not only cause the bible to make sense when included, but they also corroborate the teachings of the bible with more ancient and mystical traditions. Jesus would have been a yogi himself, if you understand yoga you can see this, things that seemed strange or culturally odd are actually explicable is you imagine that the path Jesus followed internally is also one that you can follow.
It's also the ultimate red-pill because it is a conspiracy theory which is something people here seem to love.

The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom(a 4th century saint) is what is celebrated every Sunday in Orthodox parishes, and his liturgy was modeled after the liturgy of St. James which is from the 1st century.

The problem with yoga is that it encourages kundalini energy which is a serpent that goes up your spine. Mine activated when I got in to the occult and it caused me physical pain in my brain which I had to pray to God to be healed of and undo it.
It's dangerous and it's not biblical or required to be saved. Do you think those 'yogic masters' swimming in garbage in India and sitting in the dirt in their loin cloths are blessed by God? Are they saved? Are they your masters? Are they gods?
If yoga is so great why are they doomed living with no hope?
As for meditation you can think about God whenever you like, all day. You don't need to sit cross-legged for that. If you want to praise God while sitting cross legged in nature, great.
Logan Diaz

You've missed the point of Matthew 23:8
He was meaning don't be lead astray by false teaching. Nothing is being taught there that is false.
>I started at messianic Judaism. They had me believing I can't turn on light switches or use electricity during sabbath.
That is your folly for misunderstanding the teaching of Yeshua himself, "if your sheep fell in a well on the sabbath, which of you would not go and get it?"
Do not cast aside the true path for your own blindness.

while i believe orthodoxy is by far the best, you should probably chose one closest to your spirituality and maybe even the spirituality of your fellow people (for italians it's obviously catholicism)
catholicism is great, has amazing tradition, great art and music, i don't like the concepts of papal supremacy, sin absolution and mythology of angry god but some people like it.

Reminder that every major religion, such as Catholicism, Orthodox or Protestantism is full of religious leaders who are cucks and pedos.
They are modern day Pharisees who Jesus preached against.
>Only wank like twice a week
Nothing wrong with that.

Okay fine.
>Friend asks if you're asexual >You don't know
You're not asexual, you are just suppressed sexually.
>Can't think of a time when you've gotten hard thinking of someone
That's because again, you've been sexually suppressed.
>>don't know how much is biological low sex drive and how much is childhood psychological trauma and/or growing up with lust being forbidden
Mostly suppression and trauma.
You should seek God but also seek yourself. Realize that your sexual feelings are normal. Even the ones right now where you feel numb and suppressed are a normal reaction.
You need to find a healthy why to vent this.

Catholic Cons >The (current) Pope >You got some people bowing to Mary (though they won't just come out and say it) >Have to do confessions at Chruch >Salvation through good works
Protty There's no easy bullet point for protty cons. It really depends for each denomination. I can only tell you what we most agree on. >Sola Scriptura (The Bible is the word of God and it is sufficient on judging things) >Can ask God directly for forgiveness >Salvation through Faith by the grace of God
The cons... I don't know. I guess like those dumbasses at Young Earth church, or those that don't believe in the reality of micro evolution.
There's also this one (Heretical) denomination which is the Black Nazareth. They literally worship this idol of Jesus because it came from wood that survived a ship burning.

Cons are simple
>Various heresies >May or may not acknowledge Christ as God. >Might require weird customs like banning caffeine or eating like a Jew. >The Protestant ethic >Ignoring the scriptural significance of the Apocrypha

This happened to me, I was an atheist fedorafag until I started to study the Gospels. I'm going through Catholic initiation right now, there isn't many Protestant churches here in the UK besides Baptist and Methodist, neither of which appeal to me. >Easter and Christmas ARE and ALWAYS HAVE BEEN pagan
You know, baptizing pagan holidays aren't the same as preserving pagan holidays. The Church formed Christimas and Easter around the traditional dates for Yule and the Spring Solstice celebrations to provide newly converted pagans with a cultural link to their people/culture while at the same time transforming them into a distinctly Christian holiday. It's actually pretty fucking genius. Rather than outright banning or outlawing traditional pagan feasts, the Church essentially hijacked them and made them their own.
Luis Reed
God bless you friend. As long as you believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior you're gonna be fine. Churches shouldn't compete with each other, we're all trying to honor our Lord.

My recommendation would be to read G.K. Chesterton. Particularly his "trilogy" of Christian apologetics, namely: Heretics, Orthodoxy and, finally, The Everlasting Man.
In fact I would recommend that all Pagan Larpers on here read it, if not for the sake of educational value, then at least in an attempt to actually know Christian (Catholic specifically) doctrine before disparaging it.
Here are two good videos from the Chesterton Society of America.

This is not true. Heresies need to be weeded out and removed. Otherwise we can simply apply your theory to every other religion: "Religions shouldn't compete with each other, we're all trying to honour a God" They dilute the truth of the Catholic Church by inseminating it with pride and hubris

No-one starts their journey full of faith. You become filled with it as you walk the path and reach gnosis. It's a strange idea atheists have that you must believe fully before you can become a Christian when it's the exact opposite, you become a Christian so the Holy Spirit can come into you and give you the belief you need.

The bible is a collection of old oral stories writen in the third century a.c. by a roman emperor in the first council of nicea. If you are an emperor, how you want the people you rule? Why is different the God from old testament than the one in the new? Jesus is Barrabas. Bar-abbas: son of the father.
