Trump has put himself in a position where his only chance at success is through a terrorist attack. Most of the policies he campaigned on are either fantasies (the wall, shredding international agreements, backing out of every trade deal ever, basically anything that involves "negotiating a better deal,") or illegal (muslim ban). He doesn't appear to know anything about international economics, diplomacy, or defeating ISIS. He doesn't seem to have a realistic real-world vision for this country.
So what's he left with? The day to day grind of the Presidency leaves him bored and frustrated. He throws a tantrum whenever he's faced with a check on executive power. He doesn't understand complex issues. So he needs that one thing that will prove him right. That one thing that will show everyone that his oversimplified, prejudicial rhetoric on those "other people" was right all along.
Which is to say he wants a major terrorist attack to happen. He wants the perpetrators to be non-citizens, and he wants a response that makes him look strong. Some people will happily go along with him, but they'll be in the minority.
Could do with a major 9/11 tier false flag that can be blamed on 'refugees', migrants in general and Islam.
Hopefully some way of implicating or at least targeting liberals as well.

That fact does not actually remain. It's simply untrue. Islam has been waging Jihad since its inception; Mohammed himself was a warlord. Christian wars of course did occur over the centuries, but Christianity also spread through extensive missionary efforts; Islam simply spread via conquest.
