furthermore, the educational institutions are now existing more for themselves than for the sake of science. just before christmas i was asked if i could find a way to spend 350 000 NOKs on something, whatever, so our institution don't get less funding next year.
oh and yeah, we are educating way more scientists within my field than there are actual jobs for, and still the education system tries to expand and recruit more students every year.

We probably have a lot of great people, we just aren't encouraging them enough to be passionate about things. We don't hear about the works of one another as much, so we're not driving inspiration as much as we were when a lot of things we know now were so experimental.

In regards to the question about artists, don't be ridiculous. Artists are doing amazing work today. In fact, there are so many names in art, it's extremely difficult to make a name for yourself. The great artists were known because they were few and far between. Nowadays, we have all the resources we need to become great artists if you are willing to put in the 100's of hours of work.
