I have a deep fascination with Japanese culture, it's been a big part of my life since I was about 13 years old. I'm currently saving up to move there and accomplish my dreams of assimilating into Japanese society, because I genuinely feel like i'm trapped in a country that I don't belong.. i'm Japanese on the inside.

Japanese value slapstick and have a sense of comedy extremely different from the west. Western stand-up, even when translated, always flops hard on them. Likewise very little japanese comedy makes it in the US aside from a few niche programming titles that never get a large following.

Keep in mind that the root of all humor is surprise, the upending of expected behavior and social norms. The west has very different social norms than Japan, and so our humor is worlds apart. All that matters is that you understand that Japan DOES value humor, whether you get it or not. A nation that can appreciate humor is one that we can be allies with. Also, comedians get a lot of pussy.
