What would happen if massive oil and uranium deposits were discovered deep in Antarctica?
Would this be a new land to conquer? Would this bring about war? Or is the world to "civilized" now?

Unlike the North Pole which is just Ice, the sourh pole is land under yhe ice. iirc there is a UN agreement that no country owns the south pold
>UN
>agreement
>Wat is Antarctic treaty?
> civilization
> conquest
Same thing.
nobody would give a fuck about some oil that you would need to sell at 300$/barrel to repay the costs of extraction
We are not finishing oil, it's a meme, we have a lot of oil in the arctic
>free money
>civilized
>implying they havent already discovered such resources but no one is allowed to go get them
so that means USA own it
Antarctica isn't a continent.
>UN
You're joking right?
There is oil in antartica. Obama stopped companies from drilling there last year.
its an island?

Antarctica is RIGHTFUL NORWEGIAN CLAY. We were there FIRST, it is OURS.
No, low oil price stopped them
but are the deposits enough to destabilize opec? something to go to war over?
But why someone would go to war for some commercially unuseful deposits
Arctic is the new frontier of oil, shale gas is the new frontier
At the time we would need south pole oil we'll have invented fusion
it's an edge.

Hopefully ironically, otherwise autistic.
Why do we give Australians and Canadians flak when Western Europeans shitpost just as hard?
not really because although those resources would be technically recoverable, they would be prohibitively expensive to produce profitably relative to existing available sources at current prices and probably even at the prices we saw at the height of the commodity boom
we already have a ton of offshore oil and other high-cost sources that aren't even being exploited right now because of low market price
>why someone would go to war
for power and profit, in the here and now. fusion is and if, maybe a when. and will it bring power and money to the elite anytime soon?
No
Huh?
Antarctica was an equatorial continent when most oil deposits were laid, and it probably does have a lot of resources, as no mines have been tapped.
But Antarctica is a whole other world. It is a desert, has an average temperature of -60 C (-70 F) and has been measured at -90C, (-100 F).
The shores are "habitable", but you just can't expect humans to survive maintaining large infrastructure there.
There is one species of insect that on the entire continent, it is a species of fly that doesn't have wings because the wind could catch it and blow them to their death. That is the only animal there that spends its whole life on land.
No other Animals live there which don't utilize the ocean for protection and food, it is just too harsh.
>Or is the world to "civilized" now?
The world is only as civilized as the next three meals. Check your local EBT riots to see this in action.
It's too expensive to operate down there and there's no infrastructure.
Practically what you'd see is "research bases" expanding, and by research bases I mean that in the same way that Japanese whale research takes place.
Bases are spread out enough and the logistics are hard enough that it doesn't make sense for war anytime in the forseeable future.
The territory isn't valuable enough to put people on. You're more likely to see war in Alaska, Siberia or the Yukon first.
It will be the birth place of the 4th reich
something will have to give.
Yes
>deep
not profitable to dig there atm
you have no power here
