Is there shame in that occurring?

Almost half of people in their early 20s have a secret, one they don’t usually share even with friends: Their parents help them pay the rent.
Moving into adulthood has never been easy, but America’s rapidly changing labor market is making it harder to find economic security at a young age. Skilled work is increasingly concentrated in high-rent metropolitan areas, so more young people are tapping into their parents’ bank accounts.
According to surveys that track young people through their first decade of adulthood, about 40 percent of 22-, 23- and 24-year-olds receive some financial assistance from their parents for living expenses. Among those who get help, the average amount is about $3,000 a year.

Why even move out if your parents are paying for rent?

they're not helping me with paying, they completey pay for it

I don't have any rent I live in their home

My parents are dead. Government pays for my rent. :^)
Also, fucking that nigger hiriowaku. I have to pause adblock to post now. I hope he gets killed by an angry band of rapist niggers.

This, it's legit retarded and wasting money paying Shekelberg the landlord.

>Does your family help pay your rent or mortgage?
No
> Is there shame in that occurring
No

I live rent free in 2 million dollar beach home my parents own
No shame here

I have adblock on and I'm posting just fine

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. no. my parents are old-school and redpilled. They don't pay for jack shit and I love them for it.

Hahaha rent? Rent is unaffordable, I moved in with my dad to save money for a house. Saves me ~800 euro a month.

Isn't it expensive as fuck to live in the city anyway? Why not just move somewhere more rural and cut costs?

Most boomers live in shit towns that have no jobs so Tom and Sally have to move to New York or LA to find jobs

Because you cant get fucking laid at home (especially if you are a guy)

Not to mention it is extremely frustrating not being independent while everyone else is. It's a fucking pain in the fucking ass, I'm 25, live at home, and I get constantly made fun of by rural and suburban retards who left their family in bumfuckistan

26. Moved out at 21. Parents set me up for failure by destroying my credit. I receive very little to no help from either parent and found a way to prosper on my own.

All it takes is a few years of hard work to become financially independent.

Rural areas have no jobs and increase commute/costs associated with such make it not worth it. No one likes a two hour daily commute.

why wouldnt one just live alongside family
then arrange an agreeable living space for each member for privacy
any 'rent' paid is just being paid to help family with the bills and to cover ones own expenditures

not many job openings for Twitter/Social Media Analyst Expert in witchita, KS

sooooo fork up 1,200$ a month for a 6x6 room with 4 other people bucko!

I paid cash for an older house when i was 22 and fixed it up with my dad.

age 25 here. It cost a fuck ton to live on your own especially in NJ so I still live with my mom and older bro.
Im saving money, but wont move out til I make enough to afford it which is likely this year. Believe me I want to move out.

A lot of my friends are definitely getting parental support. I earn more than them, yet they're going out and/or on holiday all the time and paying a thousand a month into mortgages

Technically, yes. I'm living in my stepmom's old house that she owns rent free. I just handle the cost of utilities and internet. It's a pretty sweet deal, desu.

They're a bunch of pussies. Their parents are pieces of shit for allowing it.

>help with rent
>rent
>having parents too poor to own a house
>having parents that don't love you enough to let you live in one bedroom of their house for free

Because there's "nothing to do" in the suburbs. I.e. you can't get fall down drunk and fuck someone different every night of the week.

This has been happening for a while now. How else do you think miss independent who works at a coffee shop cam afford her own apartment? As a father this is a clear choice, pay up or you have to risk the chance of walking into your own home and hearing your daughter getting plowed.

This isn't a secret, my parents want me to succeed so they help me with rent when I need it.

I'd be more worried if no-one helped at all.

Me and my wife owe my mom and stepdad something like 7 thousand bucks. they helped us with our down payment on our house and some of the financials getting our business running.

but i've never once had my parents help with rent. 5 years or so living at various places

>Why do you let your family help you, goyim?
>Why don't you take on a mass amount of debt like a real grownup?

lmao sadboi

No. I met lots of German girls (and US girls) who's parents help them. I'd rather live with a buddie (or live with them and pay rent) than be partially financially supported.

Well, my parents gave me money for the down-payment for my apartment, so I can't say I am better.

This

>live in bay area
>House I was raised in is now worth 1.8 million
>4 bedrooms, and my mom would live alone if I was not there
>I get judged on dates for not paying $2k/month to some jew for a single room in a house in mountain view.

Stupid bitches, I am going to inherit the house, it is literally mine by birthright. Why should I give my money to some jew instead of doing things like remolding the kitchen/bathrooms/put in hardwood, all of which I have done in the past few years.

>you want to fuck so you leave parents house
>parents want to fuck on the couch and are tired of your faggotry so they help you move

Sounds about right to me. I got quite a lot of help starting out and slowly picked up my own weight as my career advanced.

My parents have no money, sometimes I give money to them

I manage to somehow be self sufficient on 27k a year (PhD stipend) in one of the most expensive cities in the US (it sucks and I'm always broke but I have a roof and food) how do these people even function..

>Make about 1100€/month tax free
>Expenses 600€/month
>Get a wire over 1000€ every 2 months from my mom to help me pay the rent
I pretend it helps me very much, knowing that the old lady is happy she is still useful and has some leverage over me. family...

protip: a key difference between the rich and the poor is the poor pay rent and mortgages. Rich do not pay these things.
If your parents help pay your rent, get them to help pay your mortgage instead. Then you can become rich. They can even buy the house and sell it to you on a mortgage, netting both parties tax benefits (in the US) that exceed the mortgage interest.
Obviously this requires trust, as well as a certain amount of capital.
But it beats waiting for your grandparents/parents to die, or waiting to save up 20%+ downpayment in inflated housing markets.

It's extremely comon for many cultures to live with your parents and grandparents as long as you like and no one bats an eye.
White western kids get memed into moving out at 18 and run into financial trouble

>lol lazy spoiled white bois

Explain

I live at home and I have no problem getting pussy. Women literally do no care.

When I first moved out my parents help pay for a lot of my rent since I had little money and a shit job and had no idea what the fuck money was. Over the months they showed me how bills work, setting up accounts, money management ect. If it wasn't for that I would be on the streets.

It's true, My parents bought me a plot in Calgary after I graduated high-school as an almost experiment and it has only gone up in value.

This. Being able to walk around naked and have sex whenever you want is the main reason youth want to move out, and parents are eager to help. It just sucks when your parents are struggling to pay their bills, and sucks even more when they can't pay their bills without you helping, which is the situation I am currently in

No but my Mum would help if I asked.

The state of renting in Britain is a joke, especially in the cities were Pakis, Indians and other shitskins own so much of the property. I got scammed out of £100 in the last place I rented.

I'm a student and go to school in a town about 4hrs from my hometown. Don't work during the school year, and my parents pay my rent and tuition and give me some living money. Most of my friends are financially supported to various extents.

Personally I wish I didn't have too, but I'm not ashamed either. the only alternative would be student loans, which I probably don't qualify for based on my families income level anyways. The way I see it, they would still be paying for my food and tuition if I stayed home and went to school there. Plus rent is fairly cheap in the town I'm in (approx 450$/month + utilities, I live in a townhouse apartment with 1 roommate)

i just moved out in nyc area on 55k salary at 26

i stayed home until i got here

i hate these mother fuckers, i always wondered why their so many hipster kids working in 10 dollar an hour jobs in my area and able to afford it

it pisses me off mostly bc they are the ones that drive up the rent so much

lol
Couldn't afford my apartment anymore so I'm living out of my sedan. I'm 6'3 and 270 lbs. Its not ideal but its doable.
My parents can't afford to help me, and I wouldn't ask anyway.

Here it was socialism

Cheap housing, but had tothe move away for work. They built giant apartment complexes that could hoise hundreds of families

I believe that had toa do a lot more with it than whatever thedeep media says

You can say "women didnt need makeup 3000 years ago", but now all women wear makeup, and if you dont, you will lose. It sucks, nothing we can do about it

>nyc area on 55k
is this even livable there?

Also this. Living at home with the people who raised you and love is not bad at all. Social stigma is the only reason we view this negatively. And ultimately this stigma is caused by young women who expect men in their 20's to be CEO'S and own their own property. I should actually be more specific, good women don't care that you live at home and will still get into relationships with you, rookie gold digging whores will make you feel like a loser for it

(((Quocktrung)))
Sup Forums is always right!!!

I still live at home but make as much as my mother does

I just think people don't want to struggle. I moved out on my own after I finished college, which I didn't manage to do until I was around 24-25. When I did move out I had a lot of roommates in shitty apartments. I lived in an expensive city though. No savings, no money for anything but the basics, lots of problems with roommates, neighbors, landlords, etc. Some people just don't want to grind.

My parents always joke that now I owe them all the diaper changes and visits when they're old and decrepit.

If your a good family, you take care of each other in cycles. Don't worry about moola when it comes to blood.

Moved out when I turned 18. 3-bedroom apartment in an area that wasn't exactly safe, but not entirely ghetto. Paid for it myself with cashier wages from Kroger. Car was already paid off by part-time work while living at home. Cashier job covered rent, car insurance, renters insurance, and basic necessities. Didn't waste money like some faggot on Starbucks and iPhones. Did just fine. No help needed.

I feel ya user. I was thinking about selling my house and moving in with my dad to help him pay off his mortgage so if anything climactic happens economically, that slab is paid for. Been out of his house since I was 18 though so it's hard to go back to that, especially since chicks would probably think im some NEET lol. Then this contract came up and I moved far away instead. I might spend a couple years there when I get back. Fuck what girls think.

>repeatedly quotes PSID
>citations date back to 2007
>misinterpreted one article completely on parental socialization
muh irresponsible millennials guise

My parents own a bitchin house, so I stay with them for now. I'd like to jerk off whenever I wanted, but I don't want and expect my parents to die anytime soon, so as soon as I accumulate enough euros for materials, I'm building a house for myself on that sweet piece of land my grandma gave me. I'd like to pay them back for putting up with me for so long one day tho.

lucky them.

To be fair though, I had my parents make my birthday and christmas present be paying for my car insurance.

I'm living in Queens on $25k. Finding a place is tricky, but I live alone for $1,200 a month.

Making sure family dies happy > Bitches

Exactly, if we catered to everything women wanted our world would end. There's absolutely no shame in helping your parents financially, and suffering yourself because of it. As men we got all of our 30's and 40's to pound greasy sluts in the privacy of our own homes. And God willing, one of those sluts knows how to cook and has family values.

In Manhattan definitely definitely not

Everywhere close it is but you have to pick the location carefully. NYC is filled with niggers, jews, foreigners

IMO at 28 I have two more years to bang greasy sluts before I need to find a woman to have some young 'uns with. Not trying to wait until my 40's when my old jizz will make a bunch of autistic /r9k/ posters.

>NYC is filled with niggers, jews, foreigners
Oh I live in California, I know all about it.
I just didn't think you could live alone that close to the city on that.
I'm looking for jobs right now, but I don't want to have to take one closer to SF at all.

If I move back in with my father there goes the 2 years we've spent fixing our relationship. I love my dad, but living with him is unbearable. He has helped me with my rent twice in my life. I only asked him as a last resort and I wasn't proud of it.

"Son, family is there to help each other. We may not be unified, but we're still family, everyone needs help from time to time." or something like that. Almost made me cry considering 3 years ago I'd have starved before I asked him for anything.

This

A lot of men have their 3rd + kid pushing 40. It's not optimal by any means and you definitely would want your first kid in your 20's. But it's not the end of the world. Especially if your wife is younger than you. I'm 27 and my dad was 27 when I was born. But he was also 32 when my brother was born, so there's no reason to punish yourself any more than modern women already have

Holy shit are you me?
>San Jose
>Mom kicked dad out
>Lil bro went to college in OR
> She has a 2mil 4bed 4bath house to herself and an aging doggo
>Practically begs me to live there and keep her company
>Same room I had since I was 14
>Every time I have a girl over they ask to spend the night instead of going back to whatever shithole they live in

I moved to the other coast last year at 21 but mom still asks me to come back. Fuck California

They laugh at us for living with our parents until we're 28 or 29 and then leech their money with rent
I love this timeline

Lol thanks Leaf. You alright.

You can though is the thing, there being nothing to do in suburbs is a meme

My parents pay my rent. My family earns too much for me to receive Centerlink (welfare)

And yes it does make me feel guilty, there is no way i can study and earn enough to pay my own rent

Don't you miss mummys tendies and getting gbp user?

No shit.

>rent costs a fuckton in some cities
>job security is low
>sometimes best you can do is get a paid internship

I think it's worth noting that up until recent times moving out before you were married was probably considered retarded.

yes im very comfortable as a male paying 500 a month in student loans. technically im in NJ, jersey city downtown, but the rents are comparable to brooklyn yuppie areas (I pay 880 with utilities with two roommates, easily same situation in broolyn). Hoboken/Jersey city are basically manhattan boroughs, just way nicer/cleaner/safer.

my budgeting habits arent even good and i eat out a lot. I save probably 300-500 a month, but that's just me being whatever about my money and buying dates/drinks etc.

I always do like 5-8 hours of OT a week, however.

how the fuck. 1200 rent? 25k a year? Where in queens? are you in the hood? Im sincerely impressed

We're all gonna make it yank. I just hope that when I die I don't get reincarnated until at least the year 30,000. Then I can spend my life in service to the god emperor instead of worrying about marriage and watching people argue over trannies shitting in the wrong bathroom

>making 75k in the midwest as a memestack developer
>still live with parents
>too /comfy/ at home to leave
>mommy makes good food
>i give her rent + food money
>only other expense is internet and phone
>been like this for years now and dont plan on ending it any time soon
i wonder if my tendies will be ready when i get home tonight

>Does your family help pay your rent or mortgage?
No my family disowned me for breaking my mothers boyfriends nose
>I work and pay all my fucking bills the moment I get paid. Then I blow the rest on Rs Bonds.

>labour market

I love how the idea of corporations shopping around for the cheapest workers has now become so accepted that people now consider said workers a commodity in the most dehumanised sense.

My parents have lent me about £2k recently to help me move, because unforseen circumstances made me have to move twice in quick succession, without much warning, so I didn't have any deposit savings or first month's rent.

For the actual rent though I have no problem paying this by myself because I have a well paying job.

haha.. hell no. the point of moving out is becoming independent.

Feeling shame doesn't keep food on the table or a roof over your head. Fuck shame. Fuck pride. Its all about my situation. Fuck your situation. If I gotta cut your throat to make my situation better I'm gonna find a knife. If I gotta pay my parents sure. If I need to steal while working to meet certain financial obligations sure.

Heh heh heh give me rent goyim

Momlet never gave me tendies. I was making good money at work and she never charged me rent as long as I did the yardwork.

>it was excruciatingly awkward when she would try and start a conversation with my one-night stands

dont like 40% of millennials live at home?

so you're saying 80% of millennials are FUCKED?

thats so true to what i see....

Poor/trashy people I used to be friends with but have grown apart from all got their phones/cars/cable paid for. All of them have kids and all the kid shit gets paid for by parents/grandparents. I notice that they are all covered in tattoos which are expensive and all of them drink and smoke.

I'm 28 and have rented since 18 but I have zero debt and did a lot of travelling with money saved having roommates. All of my coworkers tell me to buy a house but all the guys my age bought houses with 0 down and have struggled with costs involved. I think I've done ok and I'm currently saving for a down payment.

I wonder if these people have room-mates or if they're trying to own an entire apartment themselves....

I have no idea how many millenials still live at home but I'm certain the number is absurdly high. I felt like the biggest loser for many years until I started going out again and seeing that every second or third person my age is in the same boat. Even girls, attractive girls living at home pushing 30. It's insane

What shocks me is when I was watching a documentary on the ultra-poor of Britain between the two world wars, and it had the narrator reading a contemporary commentator saying how much of an injustice it was that they spent 1/4 of the husband's wage on renting a flat. Fuck, I WISH I could find a whole flat to rent for £300 a month, when you'll pay that much for a room-share around here.

My parents bough small apartment, where i can live for free as long as i am in school.
They do this so i don't have to take loan

Both my parents are dead and I'm not even 30 yet.

You learn to adapt and survive. Living is adapting.

>enjoy it will it lasts Finland before the refugee neighbors drive you out.

>rent at 835/month in a pretty decent one bedroom.
>looking to get a house next year when my lease is up. Shooting for the same monthly on a mortgage.
>pay it all my own, no need for mom or dad.

I know I'm one of the lucky ones. But its going to be interesting what happens when the boomers try and sell their over inflated properties to retire and theres nobody looking to take it.

Second housing crash? I mean, what happens to housing values in the next 10-20 years?

>I know I'm one of the lucky ones. But its going to be interesting what happens when the boomers try and sell their over inflated properties to retire and theres nobody looking to take it.
>Second housing crash? I mean, what happens to housing values in the next 10-20 years?

yea... trying to bet you're whole retirement is going to be payed for by a kid who is payed less then you where at the same age is not going to work out too well

ill admit it, my parents cover my medical and car insurance.

no excuse for the car, but both my parents have better options from their jobs that have some sorta 'family package' that they can add as a certain amount of family too or something, so until my two youngest sisters move out and they no longer qualify for the family package theres no reason for them to remove me as it wouldn't be any cheaper.

not a good reason not to, but i see no reason not to take advantage of something that doesn't even effect them at the moment.

should probably actually start helping with car payments though....

rent however ive got a great chum of a roommate, i dont see why others dont just do that besides maybe not having someone they know. i also got pretty lucky though with finding a place like i did.

we looked around for quite awhile too before this place was found, other places we could've afforded but damn man, rent can get fucking expensive for shit not worth your time. i can see why if you HAVE to live in a certain area you might need a bit of help starting out.

They keep going up, and absorbitantly wealthy foreigners from countries with populations in the billions will pay whatever the boomers ask. We're fucked bud

>what happens when the boomers try and sell their over inflated properties to retire and theres nobody looking to take it.

They'll do what they do here and rent. Buy-to-let parasitical boomers are a major nuisance here.

yes, my parents help me but even with their help I can only still afford to live a 10 minute walk from the slums. welp.

yeah, like how it is in many other countries.
America's hard-on for boot straps individualism is culturally and economically suicidal. Multi-generational households make far more sense, as well as generating a healthier relationship with one's familial past, empathy, etc.
