What is a liberal or conservative?

If I say that I don't care about your race or background as long as you're a decent human being and can do works, would that make me a liberal or conservative?

If I say that I don't care about people doing their own things or being homosexual as long as their actions and belief do not bring harm to other people and society, would that make me a conservative or liberal?

What about if I say that people can be whatever as long as they don't cross certain lines?

And if I say free market needs some regulations but not too much, where would that put me?

In my language, the word for "conservative" literally means someone who does not like change. I also has always believed that "liberal" means people who are open to new ideas and things that are outside the norm. Maybe things are actually different.

A sane person

So you're saying that all of the above statements are reasonable and dividing into liberal or conservative is pointless?

Read and lurk moar

>centrist

We don't take kindly to your type around here.

What's wrong with centrist tho? I'm not even sure if I'm one.

an average center-left libshit

>If I say that I don't care about your race or background as long as you're a decent human being and can do works, would that make me a liberal or conservative?

Liberal.

>If I say that I don't care about people doing their own things or being homosexual as long as their actions and belief do not bring harm to other people and society, would that make me a conservative or liberal?

Liberal.

>What about if I say that people can be whatever as long as they don't cross certain lines?

Could go either way, but leans liberal.

>And if I say free market needs some regulations but not too much, where would that put me?

Still mostly liberal.

In your opinion why they label political movements as left and right? This way people can fight over their favourite political party (like a football team) and they can't even tell the polical decision taken by their parties.

Interesting, so how would you define a conservative? Is it mostly religious? Can atheist be conservative? What would a political statement from a typical conservative sound like?

Sounds like classical liberal, but doesn't fit on america's left/right system.

Some people use the word libertarian for that.

I wouldn't be surprised if such division is intentional and is an conscious effort at mass control.

That said, is the left inherently socialist and the right capitalist?

Well, excluding extra-political movements, pretty much yes.

>Interesting, so how would you define a conservative?

Someone who believes that there are things about their country (or even the country itself) that are worthy of preservation, even if that might be at the expense of some people.

>Is it mostly religious?
In practice yes, but it doesn't have to be.

>Can atheist be conservative?
Yes.

>What would a political statement from a typical conservative sound like?

Heh. Most mainstream conservatives are not particularly conservative these days. A typical statement from an actual conservative would be something like "England without the English is not England, rather a patch of geography. Open borders will inevitably lead to our destruction as a nation".

>If I say that I don't care about your race or background as long as you're a decent human
Are you a real VC or a expat there for work?

>Someone who believes that there are things about their country (or even the country itself) that are worthy of preservation, even if that might be at the expense of some people.

I could agree with this, as long as the things deemed worthy of preservation actually worth it. My country has long history and literally survived all the invasions by both military efforts and preservation effort of our language and culture but there are still some habits deeply ingrained in our culture that I honestly believe we should do away with.

>England without the English is not England, rather a patch of geography. Open borders will inevitably lead to our destruction as a nation

This is reasonable enough. I'm not against immigration but I believe there should be a certain limit. I think 90% native 10% immigrant should be good.

Classic liberalism I think. Equality, personal freedom, free market etc.
People nowadays don't seem to know what liberalism is about, looks like the philosophy has been under heavy attack by Orwellian leftists

Pretty ot but I'm curious to ask, how's life in vietnam?

I'm a native Vietnamese. About Western expats here, I think most of them are liberal. One Brit told me that she thinks communism is weird though.

The issue with that is that many of the things that people are trying to preserve are hard to quantify, and also once they're gone they're gone.

>This is reasonable enough. I'm not against immigration but I believe there should be a certain limit. I think 90% native 10% immigrant should be good.

Fuck 10%. You realise these people breed, right? 10% is roughly what we're at here now. It's a massive issue, even with that "small" number.

>If I say that I don't care about your race or background as long as you're a decent human being and can do works, would that make me a liberal or conservative?
It would make you stupid and thus a liberal. You're fallaciously presupposing you can know if everyone is or isn't a decent human being.
>If I say that I don't care about people doing their own things or being homosexual as long as their actions and belief do not bring harm to other people and society, would that make me a conservative or liberal?
It would make you stupid and thus a liberal. Your subjective assumption that immorality is contingent on whether one causes harm, is arbitary and thus meaningless. There is also a plethora of evidence that lgbt does indeed cause harm: pastebin.com/aiTLKLJc
>What about if I say that people can be whatever as long as they don't cross certain lines?
If these lines are made up by you and thus arbitrary and meaningless, it would make you stupid and thus a liberal.
>In my language, the word for "conservative" literally means someone who does not like change. I also has always believed that "liberal" means people who are open to new ideas and things that are outside the norm. Maybe things are actually different.
Change isn't necessarily good. Conservatives don't like change such as degeneration of morals. Liberals are open to immoral things, and what they consider "progressive" is nothing more than what they find pleasurable.

I hope you aren't asking these questions under the pretense of having an "open mind," thus implying you are somehow enlightened.

>If I say that I don't care about your race or background
Conservative.
Liberals believe that minorities deserve special treatment for their race and/or background.
