Many immigrants who came from Europe during America's waves of immigration were still highly persecuted against, though. Immigration was still a very big issue back in that time, with things like the Japanese/Chinese Exclusion Acts and ever shrinking immigration ceilings being quite topical, despite many of these groups being vital to the United States' infant-and-growing industry.
Of course, you could still point out that there is quite a significant difference in the cultures between Europe and the Middle East, not to mention that of the millions of immigrants who came to America around the turn of the twentieth-century, many of those individuals immigrated back home after earning and saving up some decent wages, versus the many immigrant groups who decide to stay and reside in the county they move to.
