It's the only way forward. As soon as a country makes thorium reactors it will revolutionize the world

We should be using nuclear energy just as they do throughout Europe.

It's expensive and very time consuming to create a reactor. It has the potential to fuck up everything, but not so much if it's not being built and run in anything other than a first-world country

it'll be an intermediate between oil and renewable energy

hippies need to get over their hairy asshole braids and just accept that we need it

Nuclear energy is the future. Solar panels and windmills won't power a nation. We need nuclear energy to make the leap from primitives to space faring.

safer and cleaner than fossil fuels, should use it until we have the tech to have entirely renewable energy

Trump knew about nuclear before it was nuclear.

Best power to cost ratio and the safest. Fuck simpsons.

Modern nuke plants seem decent. No more of that so hot it can melt it's way to china shit. I read some reactors cool passively now.

Just to point it out, nuclear is no less renewable than anything else.

Thorium energy > Uranium energy

The best form of energy we have, but propaganda and insane regulations keep them from being built.
Same shit as not being able to have a suppressor on my gun.

Humans need power for their shit mobiles, computers and televisions. Nuclear explosion is a consequence of your parasitical needs.

Nuclear reactors can not explode. Stop believing the media's lies.

Only practical downside anymore is the cost. They can be made plenty safe if you throw enough cash engineering and don't do retarded shit like Russia and Japan.

Chernobyl?

There is enough uranium and thorium to last us hundreds of thousands of years.

Please, at least try to not be retarded once in a while.

People this stupid legitimately deserve to be gassed.

It's not a nuclear detonation, but reactors can absolutely explode, what do you think happened at Chernybol?

...

Here's a redpill: We should be using thorium molten salt reactors.

Not a nuclear explosion. Also made by commies (retards)

Enlighten me with your wisdom burgers.

that was a hydrogen gas explosion and then a fire

both consequences of a very shitty reactor design

China is investing heavily in it right now.

THIS

Modern reactors aren't even capable of melting down, let alone exploding.

Maybe try learning about an issue before you pontificate retardation into everyone's faces. Stop voting while you're at it.

And improper procedure too? Something like that, a test was done wrong?

this meme image did far worse imo

Chernobyl was more than 30 years ago and the plant was even old at that time. Technology and science evolve. Modern reactors CANNOT explode like Chernybol.

Dangerous test procedure and a shift change. By the time they realized shit went pear shaped it was too late.

They're big and expensive. They do have an economic niche on the grid, but we need to work on the grid as a whole.

Even if we build more nuclear and no more renewables, if you want to get fossil fuels off the grid, add storage.

Nuclear power is not clean. Current uranium levels in uranium ore are so low that you actually need more fossil power to dig it up and enrich it than you get from reactor. Easy uranium deposits were depleted during cold war and now only few remain. Current uranium levels are around 0,2-0,3% while during cold war some uranium mines had 40% levels. You have to dig up massive amounts of earth to make 100 tons of enriched nuclear fuel.

This raises question why build nuclear power if it takes power than it creates?

The answer is plutonium which can be only created by nuclear fission. Plutonium inside nukes needs to be replaced every 3-4 years or it doesn't go critical anymore. This creates constant need for it while supply is limited, ton of plutonium costs several billions.

Obviously nuclear industry and military doesn't want people to know how nuclear power maintains nuclear weapons. That's why everything what's been told to public about nuclear power is a lie. They have downplayed and censored every nuclear accident just like they did with Fukushima.

They don't build thorium reactors simply because it doesn't create plutonium.

Earth is full of uranium but digging it up and enriching it consumes more fossil power than nuclear reactor produces. They simply do it for plutonium which creates massive dark revenue for nuclear companies.

That's the redpill about nuclear power.

Watch some shit on LFTRs man. Old nuclear was trash, but even that has had huge leaps in technology. Nuclear energy is definitely the future if we are to progress.

>Uranium, uranium, uranium

Because we should be using molten salt thorium reactors.

* rolls eyes *

It was far more than the sum of all of those parts; it was made with the equivalent of the shitty portions of the shittiest materials China shits out in today's society, but at a last century technological level on top of that; they disabled EVERY SINGLE SAFETY the reactor had, which to begin with were beneath standards; they used the fuel rods improperly AND disposed of them improperly; they saw warnings pop up and fucking ignored every last one of them, the few that they DID see, because again, THEY HAD TURNED OFF ALL THE FUCKING SAFETIES. If that shit HADN'T happened it would have been the biggest goddamn miracle in the history of the world, it was the century's greatest darwin award.

Nuclear reactors do not explode, using that shit as an example of a standard nuclear meltdown is an equivalency I can't even hyperbolize with anything because nothing is equivalent.

And how many old ass reactors do you think are still around compared to modern reactors? Here's a hint, lots.

I'm very pro-nuke but to even say modern reactors are completely safe is just dumb. They may have solved some of thr problems from past designs but they absolutely can still fuckup.

It's the way forward. Might not be a good idea to build them in places prone to natural disasters, but there is no excuse for a country like the UK not to be 100% nuclear.

You are a fucking tard who knows nothing of the current technology. There is no red pill in your shit ramblings.

them and the russians in ukraine.

It's better than coal.

>Mike is a shill now

Why not just dress like a girl and sell your butt faggot

How is it that the earliest post is always the most concise post?

They're perfectly safe if done right, only real issue is dealing with the waste.

that's the main problem with the world now
1960s: 75% chance of not making it to the moon - OK
1980s: 40% chance this will meltdown and kill us all - OK
2010s: 0.5% chance this will poison our water supply, giving us cancer - Hell NO

yes, okay guy. The amount of uranium you need is orders of magnitude times less than of coal with minimal pollution and it won't run out (not until we develop fusion, I think the current record for sustained fusion in a lab is 14 sec yay)

Burn it in modern reactors.

Most nuclear reactors in the US at least are 20 or more years old. The current popular design uses and incredibly hot process to separate the molecules so they have to hold the cooling fluid (mostly water) at super high pressures.

the only thing that worries me about them is that they are a target for potential for terrorist attacks.

Doesn't apply to everything, they ran the Large Hadron Collider even though people thought it was going to make a black hole and destroy the universe (lol)

It's fine but it's fucking retarded to have in areas prone to earthquakes and natural disasters

(Japan)

This, most modern reactors actually have a dump for the spent fuel cells built into them where the fuel cells can sit until have gone through several of their most radioactive cycles

Thorium is the future

Nuclear energy is great, uranium fission is efficient and modern reactors produce less than a twentieth of the waste of their predecessors.

Trump's already working to get Congress to push through legislature that will cut back a lot of the red tape that discourages companies from investing in new fission plants so hopefully we'll see a massive expansion of nuclear fission capacity in the US in the upcoming decade. If we redirected oil subsidies into nuclear power we could double America's nuclear power capacity in 10-15 years.

And since it's already been posted a dozen times I'd like to address
>muh thorium
Yes, thorium is great on paper. So's fusion. Both suffer from the same problem which is that nobody's been able to engineer a working industrial scale reactor design yet. Until then screaming muh thorium every time the topic of nuclear fission comes up is fucking pointless. We need to build an energy plan around technology that's already available, not what may or may not be available in 20 years.

Fukushima is the worst disaster of our time and there's literally nothing we can do to stop it. Tepco doesn't know where melted cores are and radioactive groundwater keeps leaking into ocean. We cannot just pour concrete over it because it will leak into ocean anyway. Radiation inside the buildings is too high even for robots and humans would collapse in seconds.

Marine life is dying in pacific, you can google "pacific die-offs". MSM is covering it up to avoid global panic. Tokyo isn't safe for 2020 olympics either. I would not be suprised if they were cancelled because by 2020 Japan is really fucked. People have radiation sickness symptoms and birth defects have gone trough roof.

Just remember my words if you don't believe me now. Fukushima will lead to major panic in the future when MSM cannot cover it up anymore. It's much worse than chernobyl, reactor 3 had MOX-fuel made from plutonium, thats why it exploded critically, it wasn't hydrogen explosion.

America isn't safe either. Jet stream brings radioactive particles over the pacific and ocean currents will spread them around the world.

Follow them if you want redpill on this. People don't realize that it will slowly kill whole globe. What happens when Japan runs out of nuclear engineers and becomes inhabitable? Who will fix it then?

Fucking Japs are going to kill public opinion of this technology because they decide to use it on an island prone to several kinds of natural disaster.

Hahaha fuck off shill. Please tell us where world's thousands of nuclear weapons get their plutonium then?

You cannot prove me wrong because all that is true. People have been brainwashed about nuclear power to hide it's real purpose. Atoms for peace -program was created purely for plutonium mass production.

>hippies need to get over their hairy asshole braids and just accept that we need it

Quite a lot of the lower ends of the green groups believe in nuclear energy for the future but the higher ups have all invested massive amounts of dosh into solar and wind that all they will do is shill for them.

the probably use uranium

>They don't build thorium reactors simply because it doesn't create plutonium.

good post. and yes thorium based nuclear reactors would be a bad source for nuclear weapons. this is one of the main reasons why thorium, a clean form of nuclear energy was never pursued in the west.

I'm glad some of you still pay attention to this

>worst disaster of our time
>death toll: 0

One nuclear disaster can make earth inhabitable for thousands of years. Most of the reactors now have been build in 60's and 70's and they should be decommissioned but nuclear companies keep them running because dismantling them if even more expensive than building them and they create steady revenue.

Nuclear power isn't worth of that risk.

Geothermal energy is the future. Just drill deep enough hole and you get steam/warm water cleanly. Olkiluoto-3 reactor in Finland has costed around 10 billions by now and it's still not finished, it was supposed to be ready at 2009:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olkiluoto_Nuclear_Power_Plant#Unit_3

Imagine if those 10 billions would have been spent on geothermal power plants. Our whole country could be full of them with that money.

Earth is full of heat, why not use it?

That's total bullshit. Japanese people have radiation sickness specially those whole live near it. Pacific is dying, there's countless of news how sick animals are stranding all the time. It's just been covered up by MSM. Fukushima just proves how full of lies whole nuclear industry is.

Yeah because CNN is totally a nuclear shill. You fucking retarded mongol rape baby.

>enenews
Literally the world's least credible source on nuclear power.

>he doesn't know about Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors

pic related

You still cannot prove me wrong.

geothermal power is mostly location dependent like hydropower

Depends how deep hole you drill. They are now building test facilities in Finland even when we have pretty cool bedrock. Drilling techniques are getting better all the time. You can use liquids with lower boiling point trough heat exchanger if water temperature is less than 100 celcius. Drill deep enough hole and you are guaranteed to get hot water out from it.

>point out that the only threat to nuclear is the long term waste
>YEAH THATS A BIG PROBLEM
>But sequestration means it won't be a problem for hundreds of years
>SO? THERE MAY NEVER BE A SOLUTION!
>Hundreds of years from now we can just shoot it into the fucking sun
>WE CANT DO THAT MAN!
>Why the hell not? Technology is making it exponentially cheaper to get to space
>BECAUSE LIKE, YOU CANT JUST MAKE A MESS OF SPACE
Literally this exact conversation with three different people

>citation needed

Its not that chernobyl was old. The reactor didn't have a containment structure.

Name another reactor without one

When you come up with better sources than a site that posts tsunami wave height graphs and calls them "radiation maps" and measures radiation in fucking becquerel I'll take you a little more seriously.

I would be a bit more concerned about the Red Forest, should that be lit up, the radiation will be far more devastating.

Geothermal has one massive flaw the more it is done the higher chance it can generate earthquakes it's why it's adoption has been slowed.

>How often can we get a rocket into space without it exploding in the atmosphere?
>Is it 100% of the time?

Future generations will curse us for creating waste what will stay dangerous to environment for hundreds of thousands of years.

Radiation is energy, energy cannot disappear which is basic physics. All nuclear reactors and waste are making earth more radioactive. Background radiation has increased tenfold since start of the atomic age in 30's, they actually changed it how they counted to make it appear lower. Radiation will never disappear, it will only transfer to surrounding environment. Nuclear waste will pollute earth forever unless we can launch it to space(rocket explosion would be nasty) or bury it so deep that it doesn't pose a risk. Nuclear waste will actually get more toxic over time even when overall radioactivity lowers(absorbed by surrounding material) because it decays to more dangerous isotopes. It's health hazard even after 100 000 years.

Nuclear power is literally the most stupid thing humans have ever done because it will slowly kill whole planet.

Its not even that bad. By law, reactors must have have contingencies that result less than 1 in 10^7 chance of a radiation release exceeding specified limits.

There will never be another nuclear event in the united states.

Modern reactors can literally burn nuclear waste.

Neck yourself. You're holding humanity back.

>Radiation is energy, energy cannot disappear which is basic physics.

You are the dumbest motherfucker alive

And we can do all sorts of shit with radioactive waste. We can bury, dump it into a trench, fuck, we could pile it up and use the heat to generate more power. But you stupid motherfuckers who get all their knowledge of radiation from fallout think it's concentrated evil.

Honestly I don't give a fuck what brainwashed people think. In 10 years situation in Japan is gone so bad that MSM cannot cover it up anymore.

Just remember my words: Fukushima is the biggest disaster of all time and it will create global panic when people realize this. Pacific is gone, US west coast isn't safe either, maybe whole world is gone because of it.

Fukushima is still polluting as we speak and they cannot do shit about it.

Totally safe, I just got back a 2 week camping trip in Chernobyl and feel great.

>Not advancing beyond nuclear power yet

Neck Yourself. You're holding Humanity back.

>Implying fossil fuels and pollution aren't already doing that
Atleast nuclear waste can be contained.

Wrong. Fusion is future.

There's nothing beyond it. It's turning small quantities of matter into enormous amounts of energy with no chemical output. It's the most incredible and useful energy source available.

>Honestly I don't give a fuck what brainwashed people think.
Says the Fin

We can't advanced past nuclear bwcause you fucking cucks never even let us advance TO nuclear. We're strill fucking running coalfire for most of the plants in North America.

Do you think we can reasonably leap from the most potent energy source we have avaliable without fully adapting to it and maximizing it in the first place?

Fucking kill me.

>Thinking other people are brainwashed.
Even if fukushima is the 'hurr durr worst dizasta eva!!1!1', that isn't the direct fault of nuclear energy, it was caused by a fucking Tsunami.

>Also made by commies (retards)
Actually, the fault was that it was maintained by commies. Chernobyl was built pretty well. Improper maintenance procedures fucked it up.

>tank has a hard limit of 2.4 kg of uranium
>better pour in 16 kg lmao what could go wrong?

Yeah, let's just jump right to the fucking theoretical that we can't keep stable without doing something we know how to do and is stable in the interim.

Fucking retard.

...or people could use less power. The funny side of supply side economics is that everyone is trying to meet demand, yet it's clear that the economic demands of humanity are what cause so much strife and pollution in the first place.

Hard to do without rationing, but Germany is using more and more solar, as are a couple of islands off the coast of portugal.

Prove it

Good goyim!

Don't look out for yourself! It's you, the small homeowner, that is using up all the energy! Go green, goyim!

What's beyond nuclear?

We are literally still burning coal because of you retards.

Yes. Why can't you?

Stop fucking dogs and get to it Trudeau
