my completely random guess at this - they were delivered convincing documents of a nature to 'reveal' major famous whistleblowers associated to their cause, including Assange himself, as intelligence agents/assets of some kind, with some kind of untoward political agenda aside from the simple principle of 'transparent government' they proclaim to stand for. eg. something which associates Assange directly to the Trump campaign through Russia.
