What is "One China" policy, anyway?

What is "One China" policy, anyway?
And what does it have to do with Taiwan?

Basically means that Taiwan doesn't exist as a sovereign but as some sort of renegade chinese province.

Because the Taiwanese Government is where the Republic of China Government fled to, and is the only unconquered Republic of China territory.

The One China policy accepts that there is a China, but doesn't specify whether it's the People's Republic of China or the Republic of China which is in charge of China, as both claim to be in charge of China.

Imagine if after the american civil war the confederates fled to florida and declared florida as "United States of America".

And then the rest of the US is like "no, WE are the United States of America".

And then the UK comes along and the "one USA policy is created" to better open up trade between the real USA and the UK.

while the confederates in the florida autisticly screeches that they are the one true USA.

Because China is a petty, butthurt country with a great deal of money, Richard Nixon decided the Western world would pretend China has control over Taiwan (which is where the nationalists retreated after the civil war with Communists), now we're all stuck pretending because China will get upset and send thousands of paid protesters and spies to your country if you even consider saying the truth.

>China is a petty, butthurt country
Don't you mean the Republic of China? They're so butthurt about losing the war that they've embraced Japanese occupation as their true cultural heritage. Truly a nation of cucks.

Hello Zhang, you were 60 minutes late for work today.

The only butthurt country is Taiwan. They lost control over the mainland and are reduced to a small island nation, they're probably even more salty now that Trump has reaffirmed the one china policy.

While Taiwan is a better government by all metrics

It's a dangerous precedent for countries with separationist movements if they recognized taiwan
Civil war losers can claim land and sovereignty is they are persistent enough and have good pr
Imagine the shit that will happen in Europe

Both sides are shit, but communism is always extra shitty and should be nuked from orbit.

"You" Americans are pumping military equipment into their country.

>anyone that disagrees with me must be a shill
Anyway, I'd say you're Zhang here, being in Australia and all. Pissed about all the shit you had to put up with at home, you're now getting a taste of freedom in the West.

You're the one defending your Chinese masters online for free.

>implying we're just giving it away for free

In the end it doesn't matter how many weapons they buy from us, if China were serious Taiwan would be leveled in a single day before the US could do anything about it.

one china one toilet

>making money is so easy

It's a gentleman's agreement made between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the PRC (Mainland) that there is 'one China', though there is no more specific sentiment past that. The PRC claims Taiwan as its sovereign territory, while Taiwan claims the entire mainland as its territory.

It's a tactic used by mainland China to allow Taiwan to essentially act independently, but if Taiwan were to ever revoke their end of the 'One China' agreement and become independent, China would attack them. As such, it currently works as a way for China to strong-arm and bully Taiwan so that they can never get representation or recognition from other countries.

This notable and relevant today because if Trump, for example, were to ignore the 'One China' policy and support full Taiwanese independence, it would likely lead to an immense escalation of hostilities and perhaps even war in the Taiwan straight.

really, China has 5,000 years of ugly history

it's absurd to think that Taiwanese government controls the mainland

the words are written for all to see

It's the "rightful rulers" meme, not that they control it. Just like all the Japanese islands they lie about owning.
