Structural failure doesn't mean the plane has an air implosion, but that at such a speed the structure of the plane would be under immense stress and the risk of shit breaking goes up exponentially. And there isn't a 100% guarantee shit will rip of.
And that also doesn't account for the first plane being well within the safe-ish speed.
Also it's not impossible for a plane to reach that speed if in a dive, which the plane was before impact.
