In 2016, those under 30 voted for Clinton 55-36 (all ages voted for Clinton 48-46). The Generation X'ers voted for Trump 52-44 (most of any group).

We grew up in a time where we were more or less self sufficient. We all played outside. We had to remember phone numbers, and directions. This gives Gen X a bit of self sufficiency, whereas Boomers are now old and dependent upon their state checks.
Additionally, we grew up seeing this shit start to form, thinking it was damn weird. Women started becoming real freaks in the early 90s. Racial bullcrap started being taught in the schools. Many of us started recognizing the propaganda - perhaps a bit unconsciously, and it's taken a bit for us to figure out what the hell they're doing..

Gen X had no love for Reagan, was quite the opposite. They were counter culture. Gen X could have cared less about politics, but they started waking up to the lies of the Boomer generation when they saw they could not get the same piece of pie. Before, kids were eased into it with the educational system, now small children are subjected to it on a daily basis by the media and if some crazy sloots go running around half naked on the street and shitting there in front of them to protest some people having dicks, it's pretty hard to take them seriously.

Let me explain this to you as a hs senior. A lot of this is due to gen x being disenfranchised with everything. Most of it started early in elementary and middle school. Each year schools got shittier in the name of progress. First lunches were made "healthy". In reality they just had worse tasting food that they all had to follow. Next they pussified sports and gym, adding all these rules and regulations so we wouldn't get hurt. It ended up ruining the fun of the sport. The biggest thing is education. My grade was the one were they implanted common core for that year. It sucked each time. The kids couldn't understand it and the teachers barely knew how to teach ut. It was really just so the higher ups could say "look at these score. Give us money." Funny enough, we had the option to also take the normal final along with the common core one and theyd grade the higher score. Each year without fail, 90% of the kids in my classes got a higher grade on the normal final despite not learning 1/4 of the stuff for it. Another major thing was the forced tolerance. If you try and force something on kids then they are going to try and rebel against it. Didn't help that all the weird emo kids ended up being the tumblr weirdos.
