The reason Flynn resigned was because Pence had asked him about any comtact with Russia and he didn't alert Pence about the phonecall. I think Pence forwarded on this (false) information to the Obama administration or intelligence agencies. The law wasn't broken, but it was a "betrayal" of Pence's trust and by extension, Trump's trust.
All the chatter about Trump campaign members making contact with Russia is literally non news. As far as I know nothing illegal has occurred, it was just a loyalty/reputation thing.

King Nig decided that he had to impose new sanctions on Russia. Why? For "hacking" the election by airing dirty laundry that Obama & Demorats wanted hidden. So Obama blames Russia for electing God Emperor Trump.
Flynn talked to Russian Ambassador, they brought up possibility of sanctions being lifted. Which was illegal under Logan Act, but no one really gives a damn about Logan Act.
What happened that got Flynn into trouble was he told Pence that he didn't talk to Russia. Pence went on television and basically defended Flynn based on that information. Only for it to blow up in his face.
Trump & CIA knew before Pence. However they kept that knowledge from Pence for 11 days. IDK why for 11 days, but maybe the CIA had to be 100% sure. However Pence was angry and because he's basically the security blanket for the Neo-Cons in congress, making Pence look bad makes the Neo-Cons mad.
So Trump did the right thing and asked for Flynn's resignation. It was to stop infighting within the Republican Party. As usual all this was blown WAY out of proportion.
