I wanna add on to this post. Before the War on Poverty totally fucked over the blacks in this country and made them all into leftists looking for gibs, MLK was controversial among blacks. In most towns there were black community leaders that didn't want him to visit them. In 1967 black community groups in Chicago and St Louis kept him out of town.
Also, MLK was a black nationalist. He thought negroes were a nation within a nation and the south should be an independent nation for blacks. He doesn't say things that sound black nationalist but his actions prove he was one.

The plan was for a black nationalist revolution to team up with a workers, campus and farmers revolution in North and West of the nation to socialize those parts of the country. Communists infiltrated within the federal government would ally the federal government with the civil rights movement and the federal government would send troops to the south and reorganize the government of the South.
The civil rights movement wanted Kennedy, then Johnson, to militarily occupy the south. All this emphasis on Afrocentrism is to give blacks the mindset they're different from the rest of America, American laws don't apply to them, and they're ready to accept the idea of a black nation once the Communists press it
