Why does the left keep on attacking the "alt-right" when it doesn't even exist?
They make the alt-right seem like the third reich, when in reality, the alt-right makes up an unoranazied mish-mash 30,000 people at most, who just shitpost on the internet; with one just one person who is taking responsibility of it all, richard spencer.
Is it because the "alt-right" is an easy target? I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, the same people who attack garbage cans are attacking a non-existent political entity - there are unions that comprise 100 people that have more power than the "alt-right"
Nathaniel Sanders
>Is it because the "alt-right" is an easy target?
no. the left was trying to build the "Trump is literally Hitler!" narrative. first they dug up some old KKK dude and made him endorse trump, and ran the story. but nobody cared. they needed something fresh, something new, something relevant to the present. that's where dickie spencerino and his "alt right" comes in - "this new internet gang of neo nazis is behind trump's support! he is literally hitler!" sounded like a good headline, so they ran with it. others picked it up, and started applying this new term to anything trump-related on the internet.
remember - before this media hype, spencer was a nobody only known to stormfags. now half the world has heard his name and seen his face.
Benjamin Bailey
I thought the alt-right became main stream when Hillary Clinton brought up pepe at one of her rallies? - it was only after that when we began to see vice and huffington post articles about the alt-right.

if "nazis" were as bad as antifa then the antifa wouldn't exist.

pretty much this. They needed to label Trump something bad. Nazi was over used. Dark was good but not specific enough. Alt-right fit in very well, cuz it's calling someone a Nazi without calling them a Nazi, and since no one knows wtf Alt-Right means, it contributed to the 'dark' narrative.

They're dimly aware of this growing coalition of edgy white dudes who are funnier and more culturally savvy than they are and who are thus a threat to their power.
This 'coalition' absolutely does exist, and many of its adherents would consider themselves 'alt-right.'
Where the narrative breaks down though is calling this coalition 'the alt-right,' when in fact the 'alt-right' itself is just an element in it, and not even the most dominant one.
The 'anti-SJW coalition' is a tacit alliance between certain disparate groups united by a disdain for establishment democrats. The coalition consists of: libertarians; alt-righters; would-be Bernie voters who'd rather 'watch the world burn' under Trump than have an establishment dem; mainstream conservatives who want to co-opt alt-right rhetoric for mainstream conservative purposes; and members of niche communities like atheism and gaming who are otherwise apolitical but hold a grudge against SJWs for "PC-ifying" their hobbies.
There's no real underlying ideological 'common denominator' between these groups, aside from the fact that A) they have a lot of white guys, and B) they don't like SJWs. The coalition is not only not alt-right, it even contains a huge left-wing element in the 'would be Bernie voters'/'alt-left' contingent.
Anyway this group of people is slowly building up a big presence online that is getting big enough to rival the MSM itself. They've become a competitor to the MSM for views and ad revenue, so they're an obvious threat; the fact that they make fun of them all the time adds insult to injury.
So to answer your question: the MSM attacks this group they call 'the alt-right' because they are a visible and overtly hostile competitor that is growing in influence. As for why they call this group the alt-right, it's probably because doing so helps them convince powerful people that the coalition in question is a bunch of 'not OK' shitlords who will rock the boat too much and need to be defunded.

Their strategies are literally logical fallacies and "alt-right" is a straw man.

"Alt-right" was a label the leftists/elites created to lump all resistance to globalism into the same basket as the Nazi boogeyman trope - so as to discredit it to normie eyes.
There are two main reasons the "alt-right" is being attacked:
1.) Globalists want to keep their markets/banks/cheap workers flowing; and national identity and tariffs are a hindrance to them.
2.) Communists want to suppress white identity and destroy the concept of nations, in order to create global communism.
It's remarkable how the "alt-right" or just the nationalist/white nationalist movement in general is facing attacks from both the necon/market right, and the entire left.
