The 6 people they got rid of likely only became a liability because of the PR fallout and nothing associated with their record. Background checks are sometimes riddled with corruption so you shouldn't trust them too much. Since IC secret information can compromise sources, any fail/pass from intelligence is always without any motivation. (Always! To include info in some cases and exclude in others, can give too much hints.)
If some Hillary-voters happens to get the task, they can agree to fail someone's clearance and that person will never know why it failed. (But someone may take the opportunity to "leak" information and MSM can make cool headlines.)
