The United States is a union of states. The name should have tipped you off.
Each state gets representation, it doesn't matter how many people live in a particular state, it doesn't make sense for them to be able to override the will of another less populous state. That would be like Germany deciding everything for the entire European Union because it's the most populous EU country.

That's great, so why does that Senate representation factor into electoral points? Other than to give affirmative action points to states nobody cares about.

What difference does a state make when electing the leader of the entire country? This logic makes sense for legislative branch, not for the executive.
