I was born in 87. When Nicole Brown Simpson was murdered, I was 6. When OJ was announce Not Guilty, I was 8. I remember the events happening, but I was too young to really understand them let alone follow the case.
My question is to anyone old enough to have understood it and watched it unfold on the news:
Was there an expectation of riots if OJ had been found guilty?
I'm 29 and from my view point, rioting in the US in response to judicial or political outcomes weren't really a huge thing until the last few years. Before Zimmerman shot Martin, I never saw things in the news and thought "yup, people are going to be setting shit on fire it turns out that ___________ happens." But now I think it all the time. It's become normalized to the point where I'm not shocked that people riot in response to this and that.
Related Question: I'm barely too young to have witnessed the LA riots on TV (I was 4 years old at the time). Were the people who watched that on TV all expecting a repeat if OJ Simpson was found guilty and sentenced? Would none of the recent riots have shocked me if I had been just a few years older and had witnessed the LA Riots?
>Was there an expectation of riots if OJ had been found guilty? Yes there was, at least I expected it because of of the King riots.
Easton Wilson
We see it seemingly every time a nigger is A) killed in self-defense or B) convicted of basically any crime - on the small scale, their relatives commit a few more crimes; on the large scale, Ferguson burns down. ((( They ))) rely on the race war to distract from the class war - you can basically chart chimpouts against political moves against the ((( ruling class ))) and get the same graph for both.
Brandon Phillips
Do you feel like there was a lull in rioting? And a recent return to it? Were there events between OJ and Trayvon that set off your "rioting will commence" detector?
Since I never saw the LA Riots, I never really thought to expect it before recently. I don't know if there were a lot of near-riots that completely flew over my head because I never thought to look for them.
Chase Adams
If OJ was guilty the blacks were gonna riot.
it really was literally all blacks thought he was innocent cuz raysis
Luke Harris
Yes, I'm an old ass paramedic and we were briefed the day before the verdict an what to do when the riots started. And had Furman admitted he said nigger OJ would be under the jail.
It also wasn't too long after Rodney King got the shit kicked out of him by police. And that nigger really deserved it. Long police chase and shook off the tazer twice.
Brayden Ward
77 here, american
they were definitely expecting massive riots
keep in mind, this is one of the first massive-media-televised-court spectacles, they blew this thing up into an absolute circus. there was round the clock "coverage" and pundits and whatever the fuck they could come up with to fill out the newscycle with nothing but OJ
it was fucking horrible. i was so glad when it was finally over. i left the country permanently shortly afterwards.

>My question is to anyone old enough to have understood it and watched it unfold on the news:
I watched pretty much the entire trial. I knew OJ was guilty right from the get go. Everyone who had a brain in their head knew OJ was guilty. Only the dumbest fucks on the planet thought he was innocent.
The jury was mostly blacks and they let OJ off as pay back for what the LAPD did to Rodney King. One of the jurors even made a black power hand signal after the not guilty verdict was read. Another black juror openly admitted on the ESPN documentary that the not guilty verdict was pay back for the Rodney King incident,
tl;dr OJ did it. The black jurors let him go free as pay back for the Rodney King beating.
Hunter Brooks
Seriously, OP. My advice to you and anyone else who really wants to know the truth about this is to watch the ESPN documentary. It's long but it's one of the best docs I've ever seen on any subject.
In fact, it should be required watching for anyone on Sup Forums who wants to understand race relations and the law in burgerland as it relates to blacks/niggers/whites
Josiah Wilson
>(((ESPN))) >flag
Tyler Stewart
Oh yes, I'm well aware that OJ was guilty af. My question is more about how my view and expectations of rioting might have been different had I been a few years older and understood the societal climate surrounding the trial.
I'll look it up, thanks.
Nolan Rogers
>Was there an expectation of riots if OJ had been found guilty?
Nope. It was clear to everyone he was guilty. I watched the verdict live in middle school. We couldn't believe he was found innocent. It was amazing.
Jordan Allen
He probably did it but that bitch deserved it so I'm all for him.
Aiden Peterson
Are you really 77, what part of the country do you live in and how long have you been on Sup Forums.
Xavier Foster
I was in high school, eating lunch in the cafeteria when the verdict was read. entire cafeteria dead quit, and than some boos when it was announced.
Easton Mitchell
> I was in high school, eating lunch in the cafeteria when the verdict was read
wtf? Did they announce it over the intercom?
Dominic Walker
i was born in 77. OP said he was born in 87. sorry to let you down, im only semi-old fag.
>how long have you been on Sup Forums
i was here before mudkipz
Noah Hall
Nah the whole rioting think is fairly recent. There was the Rodney King riots because video footage was leaked. There are cameras everywhere now so there is way more footage for people to chimpout over. There's also social media which is largely a leftist hugbox.
The big turn of events was occupy Wall Street which was the great protest for the sake of protesting. That really fucked things up because instead of anybody protesting for an actual purpose it became a trendy excuse for anyone who is a loser to throw a temper tantrum.
Caleb Cruz
>Do you feel like there was a lull in rioting? And a recent return to it? Were there events between OJ and Trayvon that set off your "rioting will commence" detector?
Trayvon and the last few years of rioting are purely because of the media creating maximum possible tension, mostly by just spamming race war shit.
Also Soros started funding riots around the world.
>live in St. Louis, lotta nogs >media tells me over and over that all blacks are pissed >that they'll knock me out randomly or kill me for being white >"a race-war is brewing that could erupt any minute goyim!" >get a job with mostly black crew >fearing the worst >expecting a shank as justice for Trayvon >aaaaaaaaand.... >none of them cared >not even a little bit
Then BLM popped up and it all made sense. Sure there's a few useful-idiot blacks that jump on the bandwagon, but for the most part, the whole black vs white race-war narrative is completely made up.
Logan Walker
Johnnie Cochran's surrogates threatened riots several times in order to influence the case. Biggest instance was in releasing the Mark Furhman tapes to the jury. It's just because you are seeing it in hindsight, the bad is often covered in favor of the blacks. They've been rioting regularly since the 1960s. You didn't honestly think that Birmingham was the result of racist cops and firefighters and that the whole system was changed due to sit-ins, did you? It's what they do. It's as natural as a fish swimming or a bird flying.
Cameron Roberts
The knky rioting that got my attention since then was the New Orleans thing where people were taking advantage of a disaster or genuinely needed food.
Justin Ramirez
They rolled out a TV when I was in elementary to let us watch during lunch. Seems so surreal now.
Jackson Diaz
Dude, us 77s are 40 this year, meaning we can officially declare ourselves old and blame all the problems of the world on young people! Never thought I'd make it. Now keep the noise down you whipper-snappers!
Jace Perez
>wtf? Did they announce it over the intercom?
there was a TV in every classroom and in the cafeteria so students could watch the daily announcements
Ayden Mitchell
wtf thats crazy. murder trial for elementary kids? damn.
>mfw we watched the challenger blow up life after nasa and the school hyped it for weeks
Gabriel Howard
Yeah they did that shit during class when I was in 8th grade and I had no interest in it. Why the fuck would they do this? They definitely made the trial about race. Like black people won something if he's found innocent.
I was born in 1985. There was not an expectation of riots, but the scene down in L.A. (Fuck LA) was pretty hot considering Rodney Kings beaten ass, and a 16 year old girl was murdered by a Korean shopkeeper (who got off with probation).
I blame social media; everyone is connected and word travels far-and-wide instantly. Sucks.
Adam Richardson

>Was there an expectation of riots if OJ had been found guilty? fuck yes. the LA riots were still fresh in everybody's mind and the trail was in LA. the media kept hyping riots endlessly by playing footage of the rodney king riots. black people danced in the streets at the verdict so presumably they would have rioted in the same streets at a different verdict.
James Jackson
I always thought that OJ should've been found 'guilty', but now that I am an adult and reviewed the case my stance has changed.
He should've been found 'not guilty' because the police were lying about shit and likely fabricate some of the evidence.
Jurors aren't supposed to find people 'guilty' if there is reasonable doubt.
If the police have acted unethically, you don't know what the fuck to believe. ALL the evidence could've been tampered with.
The OJ Simpson verdict was just. You don't have to like it, but it was just.
Henry Walker
>They rolled out a TV when I was in elementary to let us watch during lunch. Seems so surreal now.
ha same here.
Nicholas Foster

as the first post mentioned the King verdict/riots were fresh on peoples minds. There were many such riots throughout the 20th century though.
They may not have been riots because of court verditcts but if you just search wikipedia for riots because of racial shit in the US basically every somewhat large US city has a huge track record of riots over perceived injustices, even before the verdict was announced.
Leo Smith
I phrased that poorly. By "from my view point," I'm not saying that it didn't happen before, but that it wasn't a part of my world view. "Will there be a riot(s) over this" wasn't a question I thought about when I read about some controversy in the news.
Jonathan Lee
>Was there an expectation of riots if OJ had been found guilty?
I lived through it, living in LA at the time.
There was no expectation of riots if OJ was found guilty that I can recall.
There was just a whole different dynamic with OJ than there was with Rodney King, with the videotape evidence of King being kicked and beaten by police.
I see several people posting here who claim there was an expectation of riots if OJ was found guilty. Quite honestly, that was not my experience, or recollection of the situation.
John Jenkins
In 1989 Spike Lee created a film called Do the Right Thing. This film is now considered American canon, and is an important element of why Spike Lee is highly regarded.
The climax of the film involved a black man attempting to strangle to death a white italian man who owned a pizzarria in a black neighborhood. The police come and inadvertently kill the black man when they pull him off the white man. The crowd turns ugly and the police flee. Then they burn down the pizzaria in vengeance.
When this film was debuted, reviewers were stunned. One was terrified and expressed that it was a call to racial violence. Spike Lee has defended it ever since.
Three years later, in 1992, the Rodney King riots broke out.
So to answer your question OP, I don't think people really thought blacks would riot if the Juice was convicted. But they wouldn't have been surprised if it happened. Remember there wasn't really any rioting over the Trayvon verdict either. That took George Soros to come along and reanimate following the death of Mike Brown.
Wyatt Collins
I haven't seen the ESPN docu, but I saw the FX show, and it shows basically the same thing. The black jurors let him off in a crazy short deliberation time just because he was black.
I honestly don't blame them, if they thought it was payback for the rodney king beating, but the prosecutors should have seen that coming.
Angel Long
A nigger lover and a jew were killed. In the United States this is considered a national tragedy. The wrong country won World War 2. You're welcome.
Joshua Ross
>The wrong country won World War 2. That's my line. But I say the wrong side won (i.e. communists).
Dominic Barnes
Quite the tensest.

>My question is to anyone old enough to have understood it and watched it unfold on the news:
I was in elementary school when the trial was going on. Grade three, I think. Some kids kept discussing it with the teacher and the teacher's aid. I noticed that the White kids were 50/50 about whether or not he was guilty. All the Black kids were adamant that he was not guilty.
Eye opening experience.
Jaxson Sanchez
> Remember there wasn't really any rioting over the Trayvon verdict either.
True, there wasn't much. But I do recall a lot of discussion about the possibility of rioting.
Liam Hill
I'm only a few years older than you, but from what I remember, I didn't feel like there would have been riots.
Do you remember that crazy bank robber shootout where the dudes were in full armor? Think one dude died from a gunshot wound to the leg, lol.
Nathaniel Lee
hahah holy shit. That is insane. I was in middle school during 9/11 and basically the whole day was spent watching those towers, but that was a fucking attack on our country, not a celebrity murder trial. kek
Jaxon Sanders
Vaguely. I don't recall seeing the footage until years later though.
That fucking guy just walking down the street with a shotgun holy shit.

38 here. I remember that every TV channel showed nothing but the OJ trial for months, and how infuriating it was that every show I wanted to watch was pre-empted because of some nigger I only knew of as a supporting character in an Airplane movie.
And yes, riots were expected.
Hudson Gutierrez

HOW CAN SPACE BE REAL IF NIGGAS DONT IN SPACE?
Adam Lewis
I'm starting to think wikipedia actually isn't very good in documenting those riots, or maybe they weren't as prevelent as I thought.
For some reason I ended up on this Omaha, Nebraska riot page months ago, and they ended up having a super detailed page on riot history in Omaha. But the other cities I've searched don't seem to have a good breakdown, despite those other cities being much larger.
I smell shenanigans.

>Was there an expectation of riots if OJ had been found guilty?
Slightly. The Rodney King chimpout was fresh in everyone's minds. No one would be surprised and by the end it was such a media circus that the chimpout would have been all over the US.
