What does Sup Forums honestly think about Bernie Sanders and his ongoing political movement?
It seems like any time someone criticizes Trump the response is always "But muh Hillary is bad too" not realizing that the majority of people on the left support Bernie over her.
there are plenty of broken capitalist countries and yet you probably wouldn't say capitalism doesn't work
Cameron Miller
Anyone who supported Bernie or continues to is willfully ignorant. He was never an option to begin with you gullible fool. Bernie literally only existed to rile up the youth vote for support and donations because the Demcorats wanted a repeat of how Obama won and they all knew Hillary has the youth appeal of a rotting whale carcass. This is why Bernie kissed her ass throughout the primaries and after he "lost" the nomination to her, he was working with her from the start.
How anyone could take that demented Communist seriously in any measurable way is beyond confounding and I view said supporters with the utmost pity and contempt

As for myself, I hope Bernie's people manage to snatch the DNC leadership away from the Hillaryites. They're both pro-degeneracy, but at least Bern isn't a neocon.
Elijah Campbell
See you may as well respond by pointing to every right-wing dictatorship ever in South America
If he was never an option to begin with why did the DNC have to try so hard to make sure he didn't win the nomination?
Dominic Gonzalez
But there are also successful capitalist countries. Name one successful socialist country.
Nathaniel Brown
>his ongoing political movement Lel. It's even more retarded and has less steam behind it than Rawpaw did. His approach to working class issues is completely wrongheaded and ignorant. He's totally incapable of really grasping the details of why this class is suffering as it is because his bourgeois liberal worldview blinds him and applies crimestop to certain unpleasant facts.
Dylan Peterson
Too bad he got cucked by the DNC. Don't downplay the Hillary is bad argument either, it was her or Trump on Nov. 8th. And the left doesn't represent the majority of democrats. If Ellison becomes DNC chair the party is fucked.
Anthony Thompson
He's a naive old man. How one can make it so far in life still clinging to childish idealisms is beyond me.

I pick both. Modern Democrats are just proto Communists waiting to sprout. Fuck all of them They didn't have to try shit, Bernie never made an effort for the nomination. Every debate he spouted the same rhetoric and redirected angst at the Republican boogyman while ignoring the fact that Hillary was the avatar of everything he claimed to be against.
Any conspiring the DNC did against Bernie I guarantee you he was in on it. The only other possible explanation is that Bernie is a complete and utter retard who has no idea how government works because even if by the grace of Satan he did become POTUS he would be the biggest lame duck the western world has ever seen
Matthew Garcia
The reason working class Americans would take either Sanders or Trump is because protectionism.
Wedge issue fags on both sides are rabid with emotion.

Sanders has been for tariffs for DECADES and thats the only reason I voted Trump over Hillary and her soft fascist bullshit.

There were right wing dictatorships here, and they were the golden age. Crime rates at its lowest. Brazil finally going global.
Our dictators were bad in economy, and they fucked up a little, but look Chile: Pinochet said "you know what? I don't get this economy shit, you, young promising right wing economists, do your shit", and the last time I checked, Chile was going pretty well.

Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard, and others in the same vein are the only hope for the Democratic Party. Since this board hates the left, I don't expect any of you to accept his politics.
But the Democrats are doomed so long as they collude with the MSM to force Hillary Clinton and other neoliberal warmongering corporatists down voters' throats. The shit they just pulled split the party, resulting in record low turnout for all the demographics responsible for Obama's win. The weather forecast said 'populist' and the Rothschilds said, hmmm, who is the farthest from that?

Some of his ideas, like tuition-free education, infrastructure improvements, drug legalization, etc. are good investments. Jace Diaz
Thats a good point.
The argument for him conceding is fucking weak. A man stands up for his convictions and will not be cheated without at least raising the issue. Sanders will never be more than a symbol from now on because of this. WEAK! SAD! LOW ENERGY!

Breadline Bernie would have lost not only the electoral vote, but also the popular vote. He was never even criticized from the right. Hillary wouldn't dare touch his communist ties.
Asher Lopez
>socialist activist since the 60s He's part of the political elite dumbass and the 60s revolutionaries were never actually revolutionary nor were they legitimate representatives of the working class (an all too common problem among socialists). Bernie is bourgeois liberal to the core. If he were legit old school Left then he wouldn't have backed down on his claim that immigration is bad for workers, would have zero tolerance for social justice, wouldn't have endorsed Hillary, etc. His positions are shams, merely relic signaling to a viewpoint that doesn't exist anymore and wasn't even taken seriously back in its heyday.
Dominic Clark
It's a conclusion anyone can draw with a little critical thought >Bernie is borderline intelligent and knows what he is doing Then he would be aware of the climate in the House and Senate. They are firmly in Republican hands and will be until the Democrats can undo the gerrymandering they did after the 2010 census. Bernie didn't just need a Democrat majority but a crazed liberal majority and that is simply impossible for the foreseeable future. Without support from the other branches NOTHING he said he would do would get passed because the Republicans, and even some Democrats, would stonewall him harder than Obama. If Bernie is intelligent enough to realize these things then he would know he had no hope of actually bringing about change and that any attempt to run for POTUS would be a literal waste of time. The DNC realized this and wanted Hillary in but as I said they wanted an Obama repeat so they convinced him to rile up the kids for Hillary so they could get their filthy hands on the Supreme Court. Bernie being a true liberal would gladly go along with this charade despite any personal loss. This is why he kissed her ass so much during the primaries and general election. He was in her camp from the start >Bernie was sincere about his bid for POTUS Then he is a moron for not realizing what I stated above to be a completely hostile political climate.
I honestly hope he was the latter but given his actions during the election I am inclined to believe he was a DNC shill for Hillary. You can either accept the fact your boy Bernie conned you or you can run back to Plebbit and lie to yourself some more
Easton Brown

He does, and there's actually a lot of members and seasoned activists involved in it. Funny how the "liberal media" won't report on it though...

You didn't get a special candidate like Trump that changed the paradigm of the party. Sorry. I know you leftist freaks THINK you're edgy and sticking it to the system, but you HAVE BEEN the system for almost sixty years no. There's literally no point in the last six decades where laws, rules, and regulations weren't trending towards liberalism, socialism, and all that bullshit gommie sanders cries for more of.
We're going a different way now cunt. So do us all a favor, dig deep deep into that nihilistic husk of a brain and find a painful way to kill yourself. Then go for it.
Cameron Howard
>tuition-free education Retarded idea for numerous reasons including >Indefinitely higher taxes >Devaluation of degrees/surplus of highly educated, underemployed labor force >Colleges expand infinitely because they have no incentive not to, wasteful spending all around, government goes further into debt >Standards for education drop incredibly low because they have to accommodate everyone and there is no competition between universities for the best students >Colleges are Marxist brainwashing facilities
The solution to the student debt problem is ending federal student aid and federal university funding. The vast majority of the population couldn't afford college as it is now without government assistance, so in this instance colleges would have to hugely downsize, become more efficient, and drop tuition prices by several orders of magnitude in order to profit.
Everyone still can't afford college afterwards, but that's okay, not everyone should be able to afford college because not everyone should have to go to college to be successful. You sure as hell shouldn't need a diploma to walk into a Mcjob.
Henry Rivera
You are right that Bernie would have gone into a hostile climate, but (as he's stated) his campaign, like Trumps, was seen to be somewhat symbolic, a campaign to raise higher awareness of democratic socialism and not to be taken seriously. Then he started winning like crazy and probably would've won the whole thing if the DNC hadn't screwed him over. You could say he sold out after the nomination, but considering the opponent was Trump he'd be hard pressed not to take what he saw as the lesser of two evils.
Leo Nguyen

He could have simply not endorsed anyone And it's not like he didn't have any common ground with Trump. Hell, he arguably had more common ground with Trump than Hillary. The fact that both were populist may have had something to do with it.
This is part of why Trump succeeded. He reached out to the Bernie people and understood their frustration with the country while Bernie himself shilled for his own little agenda that was completely disconnected from reality.
Eli Lewis
I have respect for them, but they are communists. Communists are not my friend.

>Symbolic victory Utterly meaningless when you have zero political pull to back it up. Unlike Bernie Trump was in a position to bring a good number of senators and representatives to heel and that is exactly what he did and is continuing to do. Bernie doesn't have the fortitude to do this and even if he did his options are far more limited. I would be amazed if he had more than 5 men/women in total in both houses that would be on board for his cancerous idealism. >DNC screwed him over They didn't screw him out of anything and he didn't sell out after the nomination, he sold out before he even started running. He was a willing participant in their hilariously obvious, yet disturbingly effective, ploy to secure youth support and money for Hillary. >Bernie could have beaten Trump Lol and lol some more. Just like Hillary was a sure thing? Bernie is more despised by the demographics that got Trump the win than Hillary is. The man had literally zero chance even if he was an actual candidate.
Even if he did win pic related would have played out. Bernie was a dead horse sold to a gullible jockey

Sanders would have definitely beaten Trump man. Hate to break it to you but there are THREE reasons Trump won.
1. Populism 2. Protectionism 3. Hillary Clinton
Sanders vouched for 3 of those. Trump only vouched for 2. Which is why the working class voted for Trump.
Turns out that people are weary of a corrupt state.
Now if we had Sanders vs Trump in the general elections, the average Joe wouldve abandoned Trump in favor of a less scandalous Sanders. Whether the Trump "scandals" were manufactured or not, it would not have mattered.
I always considered myself liberal, not in the sense of the joke that it's become, what it used to be.
There's gonna have to be a lot of changes to the democratic party in order to win me back.
Identity politics have to go, in short we're all stuck in this mess together.
Warmongering has to go. Standing on the pulpit and preaching peace, while bombing Libya, Syria, thinking that the Russian were going to stand idly by while their military bases, particularly in Crimea were taken over was the result of purely infantile thinking. So, yeah I'm also going to need an acknowledgement that we were behind this things. An acknowledgement the the entire Obama presidency was a failure. Obamacare is straight up lunacy. He lied on the campaign trail about the bailouts, NSA spying, diplomacy, didn't worry about Gitmo until his final days.
I'll need an apology for expanding the TSA's fondling of people at the airports (yes it was originally a Bush program) and the NSA spying in the name of National Sercurity, while leaving the Southern Border wide open. Democrats should be getting on their knees and sucking Trump's dick for doing what they used to say was a priority.
I'm not for this school voucher shit, it is destroying public schools, I don't have kids there, so don't really give a fuck, but I know what it is. This is another program that only Republicans used to favor.
Acknowledge and do the above, get rid of Pelosi, Feinstein and Warren, take a much more centrist turn and I'll give them another look.
Nolan Morris
What 'position' was Trump in to bring senators/reps 'to heel'? Sanders has much more activist and political experience.
Again, no evidence presented to suggest he was a shill. Didnt the DNC chair have to resign after wikileaks revealed she rigged it for Clinton?
And yes, he would have beat Trump. Almost every county that Trump stole from Obama voted Bernie in the primaries
Leo Miller
That's what made me lose all respect for Bernie and his supporters. Trump offered them a friendly hand and gave them some common ground they could share and what do they do? Angrily spit in his face, knock his hand away and cozy up to the person who screwed them over because she sounded nicer than Trump. >Less scandalous Sanders The tone would have shifted to "inept" then. Sanders has done very little as a Senator and the Democrats would have cannibalized him worse than the Republicans tried to do with Trump. Additionally Sanders is an open socialist and the old hatreds and fears from the Cold War still smolder among people outside of liberal college campuses
Then again this hypothetical is pointless as Sanders still lost and even under the best conditions would have amounted to nothing but a lame duck that is somehow worse than Obama was First he is a good negotiator who already started fracturing the Republican party before he even won the nomination. Bernie's support among the people was significant but his support among fellow politicians was minimal enough it could be called non existent. Also for all his bluster and rhetoric Bernie is a very weak willed man and he would be unable to twist the arms of fellow Democrats to go along with his ride. He could barely get their support for decades and barely got support during the primaries. The man had ideals but he had no muscle >He would have won Again no and for reasons I stated earlier in this post. The idealism that won him so much support from the young demographic would not have translated as well to other age brackets. Tack onto this the usual frustration that follows the party of an outgoing president and Bernie would find himself in the same position McCain was in back in '08.
Bernie being POTUS just wasn't in the cards and he knew it

Trump is also a centrist. The media loves to paint him as "far-right", but all he's really doing to earn that label is enforcing border rules.
If you look into the rest of his program, you notice an uncomfortable amount of left-wing compromise if you're a conservative. For instance,
>Insisting on "replacing" Obamacare instead of just scrapping the damn thing and letting insurers do as they please >"Infrastructure spending," the details of which are uncertain as of now and only likely to come to light in Trump's tax plan >A complete disinterest in social policies that do not affect finance; he's content to leave gay marriage, abortion, trans issues, marijuana, etc. where they are instead of going hardline conservative on them
Mason Lopez

I bet there's a lot more than you and me who've had it with this shit. Other than Obamacare, Barry's presidency may as well have been 8 more years of Bush, WTF democrats?

Austin Foster
Which is ironically what Trump says he is against.
Christian Jones
All that protectionist shit would go out the window once people saw the price tag for it. People were upset enough when Hillary said she would slightly raise taxes so I don't think they would take kindly to Bernie saying he would do the same thing by several orders of magnitude.
The mentality is still there. I live in the heart of the rust belt and you can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone badmouthing Communists and/or Socialists. After watching what happened to Detroit the Democrats are viewed with a great deal of suspicion and outright hostility. Only reason Wayne County went blue is because blacks don't know any better

Then when he revealed his (((true colors))) at the DNC I registered republican and won't even consider changing that for at least a decade regardless of politics.

Trump co-opted Bernie's rhetoric to put on a show. He did a good job. Too good a job it turns out. He probably never wanted to be President. However, people were so overwhelmingly for Bernie's populist message they voted for anyone who even sounded remotely like him.
