The war on drugs is as much of a load of crap as the war on terror. (cf. William James: The Moral Equivalent of War.) I agree that legalization is the way to go long term.

However, we would be remiss and highly ignorant to not understand the role the drugs play in the global economy. Drugs are what used to be called one of the "big three" as I alluded to through your HSBC and the 2008 financial crisis. It's not such an easy nut to crack.
