Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 6:24-34.
Jesus said to his disciples: "No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat (or drink), or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?' or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?' All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil."

So fellow Catholics what's the best technique for kissing black Muslim feet? How intricate do you get with your tongue to slurp the grime between their toes?
>James 2:14-26King James Version (KJV) 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. >But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? >faith without works is dead?

Hey guys, couple Qs
1. How to approach lent when not baptized? I've been going to mass for a few months and I think I will do RCIA next year. Is it appropriate to attend Ash Wednesday services?
2. How to pray? Especially as a non-baptized person. I have a blessed rosary at home. I'm also interested in how to pray at church- what should I say? Who should I address? What are people at mass praying about when they kneel before service?

>1. How to approach lent when not baptized? I've been going to mass for a few months and I think I will do RCIA next year. Is it appropriate to attend Ash Wednesday services? I would say just treat it like Catholics do. As far as I'm aware, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, the only thing non Catholics are barred from is the sacraments, and you would certainly be able to and should go to the Ash Wednesday service, just don't take communion. You should be able to get ashes, but I would ask a preist about that because it may be restricted. >2. How to pray? Especially as a non-baptized person. I have a blessed rosary at home. I'm also interested in how to pray at church- what should I say? Who should I address? What are people at mass praying about when they kneel before service? Well that's mostly between you and God. Obviously there are all the defined prayers like the our father or hail mary, but you can also just talk to God. You could also ask the saints to intercede and pray for you, or pray for intentions of yours or others.

>I only pray the next pope behaves according to God's will Amen to that. Seeing as the one most likely to be next has all but called for a crusade, it seems like we have some good options lined up. The African cardinals are also pretty based from what I understand.
But yeah, francis is really too keen to listen to the word of this world. I was actually thinking about that recently as I was reading some of saint ignatius' stuff, and I came to the realization that the pope's problem is that he's a materialist. Saint ignatius says we should be indifferent to this world, to "wealth" and "poverty", that we should focus on serving God and not this world, and that if we aquire wealth as we serve all power to us, if we become poor then that's fine. The pope is so focused on not being wealthy, on rejecting this world, that he's gone the complete opposite way: he's as focused on this world as the greediest of men, the only difference is his desire is to be rid of it, not aquire it. He's no longer focused truly and whole heartedly on God, and this is where the trouble comes in. He derides the wealthy and scorns the successful while prasing the poor and extolling the failed. He fails to find God in all things, he thinks wealth is evil, and as such he is lead astray, for he can't see that God is in all creation, even in every dollar.
Samuel Long
NO catholic says only works without faith get you to heaven. You need both, for justification.
Cf: The "Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification" between the Roman Church and the Lutheran World Federation.
(Oh fuck, thinking about it: Some do cf. Muslims and Jews who do works being saved according to Nostra Aetate and Lumen Gentium - oh well, perhaps in that one area the Sedecucks have a point).

Have you ever read the quran? Because my God says "love thy enemy, pray for those who persecute you", not to "crucify" the unbeliever and to "wage war" on all those who oppose the prophet.
While I agree that we should find God in all people, and treat all men with kindness and love, the end goal of that should be to guide people torwards Christ through our actions. And while the pope's intentions may be pure, his methods are not going to make anything better. If he really wanted to help, he'd call for arms to be taken against all those regimes and groups, from isis to the house of saud, who oppress and enslave the middle east, and say to those who fight to take arms against the guilty alone, and minister to all those innocent. And once all that has been removed, get some orders to build some schools and hospitals over there, educate the populace. That would both convert people and make the middle east and the world better.
Not bowing down and saying "let them in". That treats the symptom, not the problem. It's like taking advil and thinking it will fix a broken leg because it removes the pain.
Daniel Gray

>Sorry, the Pope says it's better to be atheist than Christian so I'm staying Atheist just to be sure. That's wrong though. He said " "To be a Christian means to do: to do the will of God -- and on the last day -- because all of us we will have one -- that day what shall the Lord ask us? Will He say: 'What you have said about me?' No. He shall ask us about the things we did" He was saying that faith without works means nothing, that if we just say we believe but don't act on it then we're as good as atheists.
Which has been church teaching since the first century. Seriously, at this point hasn't everyone learned to not just trust the titles of fucking CNN?
Some one who wages war against allah and the prophet would by their very nature be an unbeliver. I never said that it says to kill all unbelievers, did I? Calling for the crucifixion of any unbeliver does in fact mean it says "crucify" unbelievers, even if it's not after each and everyone (it does say to kill 'em all though: Quran (2:191-193) - "And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah [disbelief or unrest] is worse than killing... but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until there is no more Fitnah [disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allah] and worship is for Allah alone. But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun(the polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.)")
