Wtf is their problem?

If the military builds character why do so many soldiers turn into bums after leaving the military?

Because they can't get a job and your shitty freedom loving hellhole won't even have the decency to care for the people that fought in your meaningless wars.

I dunno, I went to college and make $65k/year from my fulltime job and honestly after I pay my $900/month rent and all my other bills I usually have about $50 left after each paycheck. I can't fault someone for looking to cut costs where they can.

If I could downgrade my apartment to something a fraction of the size for a fraction of the price I'd do it too. I tried renting single rooms a few times earlier in life and always ended up in crazy/bad peoples homes, so I need somewhere that's "mine" and a storage unit like that guy's doing would certainly qualify. Not a bad idea.

Many do not. You just hear only about those do for a sob story.

6 years Navy intelligence, now a married homeowner with an engineering degree and a premium job in aerospace.

Clearly, the military ruins people.

sage, OP is a faggit.

Looks pretty comfy to me.

>Saving 1200 dollars a year only

What the fuck are you doing, leaf?

>lack of effective integration programs.
>Military psych pumps you full of drugs.
>diagnose before treating.

I don't really know why pogues who learn marketable skills fail. I understand more so why combat troops do. You have to remember a lot of the military doesn't come from affluent families. People who join when their 18 literally haven no other career experience and when their thrown back out into the private sector after 3, 6, 8 years they may be a little lost.

One thing I've seen is guys who are serving act like that paycheck is never going to stop coming. Instead of saving for the inevitable EAS they consider it extra walking around money. Couple the extra walking around money with the high stress first job and the high rate of alcoholism and drug use in the military and it's pretty logical as to why a lot of troops EAS with little to no savings.

TLDR: our mental health system, among many other systems influences the failing integration of veterans.

Actually those who were in the military have a lower homeless rate than those who do not.

>getting hung up on someone speaking in generalities.
>I'm the exception to the rule
>military intelligence being fucking retarded.
checks out.

POG's

PTSD and Depression, my guess.

>OP presents anecdotal evidence
>a counter anecdote is presented
>lol lurn2argue

You clearly don't understand how things work around here

>What the fuck are you doing

Wishing I was in a better situation. I live near Vancouver in a shithole apartment that costs almost $1000/month (I was actually issued a rent increase effective in 3 months), I have bills out the ass, I have some debt, I mean it's just a bad situation. There's no possibility of me ever buying a home at this rate, and my earning potential isn't likely to increase too much. It sounds absurd only saving $1200/year as you said but I know many working-class people who are in the same boat as I am, if not worse.

I forgot, we all make 600k and fuck hot bitches on the weekend. :^)

PS: my dad works at Nintendo.

Can you join the leaf military? I know US servicemen can get debt relief on preexisting balances, and also get great benefits for buying homes (just used mine, shit was cash). Not sure if they have options like that up there though.

>implying

When you shitpost like that, it means you've lost.

>But then bankruptcy came

Sounds like he fucked up

Sir I'm joining the Navy and going into intelligence after boot camp. Got any recommendations?

Implying you weren't shitposting to begin with.

>POG

Have you ever thought that it behooves regular homeless people to just pretend they're veterans in order to garner more sympathy from the public at large?

Die for Israel like a gud boy.

I'm not, check my posts faggit.

This

> calling people sir on the internet
I'd normally give you a tip o' the ol' fedora, but in this case you're just a perfectly good goy.

Everyone I know in the military seems really well off and owns flats and houses and expensive cars. Probably a small sample though.

What does this goy thing mean?

OP's a pretty good illustration of how one line writing prompts are not legitimate.

Please, I'm not "sir." That's for officers, and I was a proud blue shirt.

Congrats on making the decision to join the America's oldest military force, future shipmate. Intel is a great field that will set you up for life of you do your time correctly and honorably.

I can answer any questions you have, and tell you about my life as an EW2/CTT2(SW/AW).

Quit living in cities. I earn maybe 20k a year and save around 10k a year.

Just ignore shitposters.

How? I live alone in my apartment that costs 1000/month, I make 32k/year working as a barista, and I still manage to save around $400/month.

The main part I'm worried about is swimming during boot camp, but my recruiter and a Captain I met with said I would only need to know the basics essentially. Is this true or do I have to be a well trained swimmer?

And I don't know, tell me about the life you've had in the Navy I guess. Where you've traveled to, your duties, etc.

Hey, that storage unite looks pretty nice...he has it fucking well off...most homeless are lucky to have a tent and even then they will never find peace as barely any cities have a single fucking place where homeless people can set up camp and stay there permanently without getting hassled by the cops...Its basically a crime to be homeless which is unconstitutional...It's complete and utter bullshit that we cant find small plots of land for the 500,000 homeless in America and the 100,000 chronically homeless....Who, when u divide the number up between all the US cities, can all be easily taken care of with simple buildings with bunk bed cots, or just a piece of land with large refugee tents for the rain, that's all people need...Its crazy that we cant just find a simple place for homeless people in every american city...they always have to go from freeway overpass to freeway overp[ass untill the city finally letrs them l;ive in one place for a few months....It just pisses me off that in the most wealthy nation on earth we cant simply take care of the 100,000 chronically homeless people without diverging into an argument about socialism when people all just want a simple shipping container home like this guy...Thatrs all they need....and if every homeless or chronically poor person would just be awarded a free shipping container home and a tiny piece of land, thjat would solve so many problems...people just need a small tiny little piuece of land to call their own, and anyone who wants a piece of land should be allowed to have one in the united states...Without having to pay...Its not socialism its just the right thing to do....There are plenty of unused strips of land that rich landowners could easily donate to give to homeless people and end homelessness in the United States....Hey and if the shipping containers are too expensive just use the new Ikea refugee house ...here is an image of them they can be shipped in flatpack boxes and assembled with NO tools

>The main part I'm worried about is swimming during boot camp, but my recruiter and a Captain I met with said I would only need to know the basics essentially. Is this true or do I have to be a well trained swimmer?

I'm not a strong swimmer and passed the test first try. If you can swim one lap in a pool, you're good. If not, practice now because rudimentary swim lessons in basic are not fun.

Boot camp is ez. Keep your mouth shut, try and get a leadership position in your division, and you'll be fine

>
>And I don't know, tell me about the life you've had in the Navy I guess. Where you've traveled to, your duties, etc.

That's...... a lot to phone post. I spent two years in Pensacola learning my trade, and 4 on the USS John C Stennis performing it. Did one tour in the mideast bombing those fuckers to hell. Went to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Dubai. Slayed some puss here and there, drank way too much, and has a great time.

Lots more detailed than that, but I'm at work and have to phonepost. Happy to answer anything specific you have though.

Be a millionaire then instead

you must have lots of loans.

i have 65k, pay 1000 rent, save 1k

begeht Selbstmord hans

I gotta go to work but I'll post a thread later asking questions and shit, and I'm a respectful person and I can tread water and do a lap or two, so that's all good.

And why should I try and get a leadership position? Just better for rank advancements?

Too much character.
Really though, they were probably deadbeats before they joined, stayed deadbeats while they were in and are deadbeats now that they're out.

fpbp

I don't understand this. At my Uni every time i talk to a military guy they are always loaded with cash. They tell me they get tuition paid in full + a shit ton of extra money for books, get cheap healthcare, they get their rent partially paid by the government(or they get a discount or something. They didn't go into details), then they have a bunch of money saved up from when they were getting paid whilst in the military. I was also told by this one guy that he gets paid money because his dad was in the military or some shit. So he is getting paid for his service and his dads. Sounds like military guys are extremely well off. How'd this guy fuck it up? Was i told bullshit? I see no reason these guys would lie to me, or maybe i mis-interpreted what they said.

Oh fuck. Why didn't I think of that

Because soldier's are discarded at the first sight of affirmative action.
Sorry, man who bravely and valiantly served our nation, but this white lady and this black guy need a little help, even though we're all totally equal and capable of all the same things...

A lot of veterans don't take advantage of the benefits they earn... and then there are all the ones with dishonorable discharges who still go around spouting about their veteran status and playing the victim

>Has to live of of 50 dollars per month because of some chinese landowner

because they go in for muh benefits

american military is nothing more than an extension of the welfare state

Why do they care if you live in the storage space? You're paying for it, you should be allowed to do whatever you want

They might not have had much direction or drive before they entered, then they fail to use their GI Bill benefits for education or training. A vet teacher at my community college once went on a rant about all the other veterans he knew and heard about from students who basically left money on the table and didn't try to improve themselves.

>Get free land and home
>Sell land and home for market price
>Buy booze
>am now homeless again

Veterans from Illinois get the Illinois Veterans' Grant, which covers full tuition, and the GI Bill, which would cover tuition plus give you a housing stipend and some other funds. You could, for example, receive both at once and any leftover funding is given to you. What you were told wasn't bullshit, you could pocket 10k+ a semester if you're smart about it

How old were you when you realized the American dream was dead?

I went through navy boot camp about 5 years ago. Towards the end they say if you can't swim you're fucked and can't go on. Then magically they pass all the niggers that could never swim. Same goes for the final run, they usually pass everyone or just cheat out right. Our RDC's even talked to us about cheating and said it should happen. I could do all the push ups and everything but I never did cause I was tired from not enough sleep. So mostly me and my bud cheated and chilled, skated. So you should be good I'd say as long as to much hasn't changed.

>And why should I try and get a leadership position? Just better for rank advancements?

That, and having a crow on your collar makes life a bit easier. I was the Catholic service coordinator, got to hang out with the chaplains and the RPs. Got coffee and donuts every week, made extra calls home, and even missed a few beatings my division earned while I was out.

Best part of that? Been an atheist since I was 10, lol.

If I don't see you later, best of luck to you, future shipmate.

> free
I'm sure this will never over inflate the housing prices and fuck over millions more than it helps, not to mention any investment in poor people is a no return investment.

Please see

I failed the dead man's float portion of the swim test my first time around, having had no experience trying such a thing. When I retested there were about fifty dindus and I was the only whitey. That alone was motivation to pass the second time around. One guy was stuck there for 9 months failing the swim over and over again. This was when Bush was on his way out though.

youtu.be/eSuyOq0vCEE

Yeah, but you make over twice what I make, my rent is about the same and I'm living comfortably. What the fuck useless shit are you paying bills on?

What's a dead man's float ?

Lying on your back with arms out and legs out like jesus and floating without letting your ass sink

Go prone, face down in the water, lifting your head every once in a while to inhale and using only the air in your lungs to stay afloat for five minutes. No use of arms or legs

It -builds- character, yes. Some characters become even greater than when they started. Some characters are worsened by the experience because they started with a really shit view on life/joined for wrong reasons.

>why do so many soldiers turn into bums after leaving the military?

"I did my part, god dammit!" Read above.

Pic related

I wouldn't have had trouble if it were on my back. Had to be face down when I was in

Thought so. I was a swimmer and a polo player for about a decade. They never taught this, but it came naturally to me and I was a chubby kid to boot.
What's the point of it, don't they doubletap in real combat anyway ?

Emergency situations when a sailor falls overboard at sea. I was told it takes a minimum of 20-30 minutes for them to do a head count and then find you let alone rescue you in that situation

because it doesn't build character

Pretty accurate. Our Oscar drills never resolved in under 20, but it was on a carrier with 6k people on board, plus there's always some retarded civvie that has no clue what's happening.

Moral of the story, don't fall off a fucking carrier.

Wouldn't it be simpler to put a gps tracker on your watch and the ability to send a distress signal ?

I'm in and have about 20k in my checking and 30k in my tsp. I try my best to save up, but I always feel like it's never enough.
