Why do libertarians seem so left-wing these days? Ten years ago, the word "libertarian" seemed to bring to mind free-market capitalists and people totally against "positive discrimination" of any kind. As well as believing that the individual is the highest authority.
But nowadays, when I hear "libertarian", it's often someone who thinks that the free market is oppressive, that private property is oppressive (because it means you can exclude others), and who believe that the ideals of democracy override individualism. They push democracy as the ultimate libertarian ideal, which is a weird concept, as they want the majority to control the economy. "Libertarian" these days basically seems to mean left-wing socialist democrat. What the fuck?
libertarians are children who don't understand economics or human nature, much like liberals. Wastes of space findthemselves accepted by both groups interchangeably.
Jordan Russell
You're just making this up and not representing reality correctly at all.
>libertarians are children who don't understand economics or human nature,

The Libertarian party tried to appeal to leftists and then got taken over.

We need to take the Libert out of Libertarian

>fantasized utopia
its such an absurd idea to say that life would be better if we had a smaller government................ literally all the departments of our government are necessary and the world would crumble without them...................................................... so.... this....... is....... the....... power....... of....... socialism...........
Luke Wilson
>utopia.

They were coopted this election cycle with the gary johnson shills.... I was a big fan of John Mcafee for Libertarian party presidential candidate.. but he would have inevitably taken votes away from trump so all in all it worked out... I am libertarian in ideals.. but it's not realistic in our current system.. maybe at the local level.. but at the national level... individual freedom is just too radical plus we have way too many shitskins for it to work imo... It would basically look like mexico does today... the perfect "anarcho-capitalist" society for the druglords...
Anthony Butler
It fell in with "dude weed" and was subverted by degenerates.

Libertarianism is just another divisive side of the same shekel! It was never supposed to gain any power, it's only purpose is to attract rich whites, so they can be painted as enemy of poor whites by (((them)))
Oy Vey, don't help each other goyim, be individuals, be alone

I think this is it. I used to be a libertarian, but didn't really have any grounding aside from believing that you should be allowed to do anything as long as you don't hurt someone else. I hated the authoritarian tendencies of the left, but only understood the world through the leftist paradigm (the result of only going off of knowledge acquired in high school and college) so anytime is voice disagreement with a leftist they'd run circles around me because I still believed they were ultimately the good guys who meant well.
Then I came here and started developing the philosophical chops necessary to understand why I was rebelling against liberal orthodoxy in the first place.
Tl;dr libertarianism is a stepping stone philosophy. It can lead to better things but ultimately it's cucked to the core.
Nathan Jackson
you have no concept of european history
youre an idiot
authoritarianism of the right is no better than that of the left
Justin Wright
The fuck are you talking about OP? Libertarians are now and have always been socially liberal and fiscally/economically conservative. Small government, minimal regulation.
Jacob Morris
>Libertarians
WE ARE THE BERG

The people you describe don't sound libertarian at all. Either you're retarded or you're talking to retards.
Brandon Morales
Smart libertarians turn into far-rightists. Faggots are what you are left with.
every libertarian ive ever met is far more well versed in economic history/theory than anyone on the left/right. they dont like libertarianism because it defends itself with truth and doesn't fit their angsty bitching about multiculturalism and kikes
Lucas Lewis
>Gary Johnson >any of these things
There are plenty of decent, intelligent libertarian individuals. The movement is fucking retarded by and large though. Capital L libertarians are who just about everyone itt is talking about.

When talking to other Libertarians, the thing I notice is that there are many within the movement who get so lost in the abstract minutia, and theorizing that it pretty much becomes the picture seen in:
They read so deeply into the theory of freedom (which is a hugely important and underrated philosophical area of study IMO), that they become blind to the cultural and social tectonic shifts happening around them. They'd be happy to live in a shithole like Somalia as long as the state enshrines their individual rights.
I'm still a Classical Liberal. But at this point, I think it is no longer defensible to call yourself a Libertarian and be advocating for shit like Open Borders. It's like Libertarian that is still straddled by the Blue Pill that utterly desolated Rome. The blue pill of: You curate your fucking culture and demographics accordingly or you are absolutely turkus maximus fucked.
