In the Senate, you need a 3/5 majority to invoke cloture before you can vote on most legislation. During Barack Obama's first ~1 year in office, he had exactly the 3/5 he needed (60 out of 100) to get literally anything he could get Democrats to unanimously agree upon.

Republicans hold a 52 seat majority in the Senate, not 60. This makes everything they want except for the annual budget, cabinet nominees, and lower court (not Supreme Court) nominees require some Democrats going along.

It's not like the Canadian parliament where 50%+1 = anything you want.

I voted for Ted Cruz in the primary but lost to Trump. So I voted for Trump in the general election despite having reservations about him possibly flip-flopping and being more of a moderate. Trump so far has been good, but his firing of Flynn was incredibly dumb and now has only created a weakness the left will exploit. He is politically naive and that puts him in danger. Also, his promise of repealing DACA on "Day One" has not happened and it makes me skeptical since he could easily legally repeal it. At the very least, I will be content with Trump if all he manages to accomplish is to build a real strong multi-layer border wall, increase deportations, and severely limit H1B visas.

Then instead of ass kissing Trump, you should remind him of his promise to repeal DACA.
