Well, I am inclined to think that it should related. The "computer scientists randomly monitoring server traffic from Trump Tower" story seemed like a cover to me from day 1. I think this story about alfa bank resulted from the FISA warrant and was leaked to Slate and/or these computer scientists as a cover.
The second FISA request was granted in October and this story came out in November.
At a minimum, it is a lead worth investigating.
