It was the literally the greatest country ever between 1945 - 1968 (approx). Although it had peaked, it was still great up until the early 90's (approx). Today it's still very good despite everything and it's still the greatest country on Earth all things considered due to the other western countries having an even worse decline. It's not gona last though, the future belongs to China.

1) the dynamic of crime between violent criminals and innocent pedestrians. A gun is an equalizer of force. In an unarmed society, violent criminals can depend on physical stature and fighting ability to hold a monopoly of force over their victims. In an armed society, even if the perpetrator is armed himself he doesn't have a monopoly on force and thus can't thrive nearly as well in his violent criminal career.
2) defense against tyranny. the 1st amendment should by far be considered the only acceptable means of political maneuvering in a civil society, but in that regard the 2nd amendment in the end-all failsafe. A definite line in the sand exists along with the second amendment, that the government would fail to enforce true tyranny on its people.
1 is the point that is vastly more relevant in the modern day, and I think the right of defense is inalienable, but tyranny and revolt are timeless concepts and it shows our foresight to hold onto this value in trying times

This doesn't seem like a good argument to me. If you live somewhere that makes you feel unsafe, wouldn't the wise thing to do would be to... move? Rather than being reactive by purchasing a weapon I think someone should be proactive by... well, fucking moving.
