Hopefully this is the right board to post to, but I don't understand why people have children?
I feel like I'm completely unable to relate with people on this. Why do people have kids? I understand sometimes a pregnancy is unplanned, or in poorer countries people have kids so they can help them with money. What I struggle with is understanding the reasons why in a modern world people CHOOSE to have children.
Like, why? What is the reason? I always hear especially women talk about how much they want kids, and how they've been trying to have kids, and talking other stuff about kids. They talk about em, but not give any reason why they want them. It's as if the reason is extremely obvious and doesn't need to be even mentioned.
Is something wrong with me? I can't come up with a reason. I don't understand why people choose it. Why do something like that? You'll need to sink a ton of money in, care for the child and feel terrible and scared if he gets sick or hurt, women need to go through 9 months of pregnancy, it'll put massive limits on you, etc.
I mean it's cool if you want children, I'm all for you. But why? Why do you want them? I've asked this several people and they never gave me a clear reason.
I mean having sex is understandable to me. It feels really good so I do it. I feel a great amount of pleasure from doing but the thought of having a child is weird to me because I don't have a reason to.
Yeah, I share that opinion too but we have this opinion because we don't have a reason to have children. Hopefully someone who has or wants to have some will post.

A family is a beautiful thing. Believe me it is. If a man has a wife that is even relatively traditional, and supportive rather than confrontational then family life is a wonderful experience.
Charles Turner
That's one reason, but I'm doubting many people have that as a reason.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying it's a beautiful thing to look at a family and have a family of your own? It seems a bit of a risk because I don't see families as so beautiful that I want to have a kid with someone. Can't a family consist of just me and my partner?
Sebastian Scott
I also wonder why it's usually the people who don't want kids that have to explain why they don't want kids. Again, it's as if the reason for having children is very obvious. I feel like I'm missing a key piece of knowledge.

You can't relate because you are a genetic failure.
Reproduction is what you are for.

You might be right. If there's a person that is unable to feel pleasure and asks me why I have sex then I couldn't begin to explain to him why. Whatever I'd say he'd be unable to relate to because he's incapable of understanding the feeling of pleasure.
You may be right, but I hope some other poster might make it clearer.
