Seoul is one of the most densely populated cities on earth. It's bigger than New York and it's in Artillery range of North Korea. It's estimated the North could fire 500,000 shells onto Seoul in the first hour of the war. And maybe a crude artillery-launched nuke just for good measure. That's why there's stalemate.

There are only 2 scenarios:
1) Kim provokes military conflict. NK is decimated. China allows this, but warns US/SK not to advance past a certain parallel into NK. A ceasefire takes hold. China comes into NK under guise of humanitarian aid and stabilizing. China inserts puppet/satellite regime aligned with Beijing.
2) China gets sick of Kim's shit and finds a successor inside NK and helps surround him with successor regime apparatus. China induces largely bloodless coup. Again, China comes into/invited into NK under guise of humanitarian aid/stabilizing. New regime is puppet of Beijing.
Ain't NO how, NO way China is going to allow a US/SK friendly/aligned NK to exist on its border. Controlling NK and having a Beijing aligned regime is a strategic imperative for China.
