Communism is the next stage of humanity following the capitalist stage.
What exactly is communism according to Marxist-Leninists:

i forget the exact numbers but in 1978, 1% of China's wealth was held in the private sector. Now it's larger than 70% They're not as free as USA but capitalism is what saved them from the crushing famines caused by communism.

Marx also wrote that between capitalist and communist society, there would be a transitory period known as the dictatorship of the proletariat.During this preceding phase of societal development, capitalist economic relationships would gradually be abolished and replaced with socialism.
