/syo/ General - aka Jordan Peterson

Up Bright and Early!

This thread is to discuss the ideas of Dr. Jordan Peterson, newbies and curious people welcome.

Topics to discuss:
>Have you made any positive changes?
>What values are aligning your actions?
>Set backs? Progress?
>Think this guy is full of shit and want to cut him down?
>Thoughts on free speech?

And of course, lots of memes to keep us warm.

/syo/ means "Sort yourself out" which became a popularized after Dr. Peterson said it as a response to Joe Rogan, who inquired "What can people do if they want to support you?"

SORT

I saw him twice this past week at two public talks he gave in Ottawa. One on creativity at the National Art Gallery, and another on free speech.

Pic related is the one from the art gallery, which was given in from of a packed house (~400 people) and lots of folks had to be turned away.

Protesters numbered in the dozens outside.

Here's one from the sold out show on Saturday in Ottawa at the public library. It was 3 hours long, half of which was a Q&A.

Sup Forums brought up several times, the topic was freedom of speech.

>Have you made any positive changes?
Started lifting, I've gained 3 lbs which is good because I'm underweight. I also volunteered for the Maxime Bernier's campaign and made sure some locals will be signing up and voting for him.
>What values are aligning your actions?
Sincerity, self-respect, dignity, but most of all duty.
>Set backs? Progress?
Well, I'm still a NEET, I still watch porn, drink and smoke pot, I haven't tried to get a gf or anything. I think it's my duty to do better, and I will do better. One thing at a time though.
>Think this guy is full of shit and want to cut him down?
No I think Peterson is the greatest living Canadian there is, and he is a great inspiration to me, a ray of light in this dark age. He said one thing I didn't like, in one of his lectures he said "you need to read the Gulag Archipelago or you don't know what's going on" - I'm sure it's an excellent book but I'm also sure it's not the only key to understanding modern issues.
>Thoughts on free speech?
It is the most important thing we should strive for in this age. Last night I went to a party and some drunk SJW yelled at me for half an hour because I talked about slavery.

protests?

ftom people like the sjws from that video where they dont even let him talk?

Exactly, they were really disorganized too. Kudos to them for showing up, but they were really lame and had no clear message or critcism. All were pretty young, probably in school still. "Low energy" to steal a trumpism.

I mean look at this lame cartoon.

Way to go Leafbro. People will be resentful of your if you don't "shoulder the burnden of collective shame"

I'm just assuming youre white because otherwise you wouldn't get grief from sjws.

I also think you're on the right track if you have a sense of duty. That is a powerful thing. Human obligation. Will take you far, in my estimation. Further than someone who thinks they will receive all the benefits of the world via endless extending of Human Rights (aka snowflake syndrome).

Have you tried self authoring?

Are these online suites really worth the money?

i itch buying it but am uncertain, can anyone comment on them?

Yesterday there was an extremely diverse crowd in the audience. Lots of races, ages, mostly men (over 60% at least) and even a gay dude who stood up and thanked Peterson for applying pressure on the PC beast growing out of the campuses in Canada.

>Start seeing 77 on the end of numbers everywhere
>Car numberplates, item numbers at work, new emails at work
>See the podcast with him and rogan recommended on youtube
>#877
>Praise KeK!

I got them with my patreon donation, and worked through them slowy since January.

I feel as though I was pretty sorted to start- I'm in my mid 30s with a good career, family, healthy lifestyle, etc

That said, lots of changes since Jan. No more facebook, no TV, spend every night reading. Feel as though somehow it could help anyone.

Wait till it goes on sale, sometimes he puts them on for pretty cheap. It doesn't %100 belong to him, he had colleagues who worked on it so it's not all up to him when that might happen.

What's up with all the qt asian girls sitting in Peterson's lectures?
Are there really this many cute asians in Leafland?

It's a brand new week.

Going to church this morning.

I want to be sorted Bros but I'm scared.

>Have you made any positive changes?
Started listening to audiobooks and podcasts trying to learn more about the world and how people work. Just finished The Meditations (Marcus Aurelius). Talk to my family more.
>What values are aligning your actions?
Authenticity, sincerity, empathy
>Set backs? Progress?
I graduated with a degree in CS but haven't found a job in the field yet. I realized that I didn't really care for programming and now and sort of stuck in a rut in a somewhat boring job (data entry). I'm underachieving but I'm not really sure where to go from here.
>Think this guy is full of shit and want to cut him down?
No, he's actually made an impact on my life
>Thoughts on free speech?
Free speech fundamentalist. If someone says something you don't like, you can disagree without getting angry or emotional. Instead of laughing at SJWs and saying mean things I just feel sorry for them. Pic related

i couldnt quite grasp from the website how these exercises work

i get it you write what you think you are doing wrong, do courses offer any concrete advice or are you supposed to sort everything out with no clues?

thanks for your replies

No, they don't give any direction, it's %100 up to you.

One of the things JBP talks about is his parenting philosophy, or rather a rule he tried to keep, which was "Don't do anything for your child they can do for themselves", in so far as doing it for your own convenience. Doing so robs them of a chance to develop.

If you come up with a plan of your own, through careful reflection of what your values are, it is an organic program and not a graft. And you get a sense of being the captain of your own ship, rather than just following in the footsteps of someone else.

Using the self authoring tool is really like wiping the fog off of your moral compass, and getting oriented.

bump

At the talk yesterday he mentioned Kek! And someone screamed out "You are his prophet!"

Thanks for the encouragement, and no I haven't done the self authoring program, but I have a vague plan for how I want to spend the next few years of my life.

how can I deal with insecurities?

On your note about underachieving:

I think it's a sense that keeps us all moving forward. People don't like feeling inadequate, but even feeling adequate isn't enough either. Maybe where you find meaning in life will never be in the work your job does per se, but in the life that having your job allows you to do.

At the talk yesterday, Peterson spent some time going over Nietzche. How terrifying it was to absorb him. He pointed at the audience and cried out "You aren't what you could be! You aren't what what you could be!" because we all know that we aren't living up to our potential... and the burden it is to carry that around. And so people fall into nihilism, or become idealogues. Keep hopeful, brother.

877 - means in numerical spirituality: end of something that will shift to something else.

Anons I need help, I don't like to get off my computer because I have to be around my fat useless family. My environment is full of lazy people, no father. I don't have a support system. What do?

I only watched that video of him where he weeps and now Everytime I listen to him I think he's going to cry any second. Does he cry often in his videos?

Thanks man. Have a link to the talk?

It doesn't appear to be up. I sure hope it was recorded.

this "sort yourself out" bullshit is /r9k/ tier self-help faggotry, stop making us look like a bunch of losers who need to fix their lives while we browse a tibetan taipei aficionado forum

It was recorded, probably will be posted next week

fact is Sup Forums is like a magnet for young alienated men living the hakuna matata life

You do a pretty good job of that on your own, bucko.

...

Yeah he records everything these days, and he says he's enjoying video editing he's having to teach himself.

Anyone else attending his speech at Western next Saturday?

what did he say about Sup Forums, lol

I'm more in understanding with my emotions.

More stoic now.

Oh it's you again.

video? link?

Is there anyway we can reach JBP about his podcast/interview series with artists and academics? I need to JBP discuss Jesus, fascism and nihilism with Paul Verhoeven.

>a bunch of losers who need to fix their lives

Everything can be made better. Are you so lacking in intellectual ability, that you fail to see the benefit of listening to advice?

Why would you shun people for wanting to make their lives better, or indeed wanting to help others achieve what they have?

Is this alluding to the guy who tried to catch the covenant as it was falling but was immediately struck down by God because people were forbidden to touch it no matter what?

He did an AMA on Sup Forums

Jordan Peterson is coming to my university. We're going to beat his ass the way we beat Richard Spencer's ass. Once he cries on TV he will be discredited forever. He normalizes misogyny and transphobia the way Trump normalizes racism.

Nazis watch out.

This would be like crucifying jesus. You'd be making him a martyr for us.

Proof that you've made yet another right wing cult of personality around Jordan "Jesus" Peterson.

gimme the rundown on where to start reading stoic philosophy

PLEASE DO THIS.

Canada will be conservative for the rest of my lifetime.

Leafbros deserve freedom too.

Went to both as well. Great time. Truly insightful. I really felt enlightened.

Hope he comes back

went through his most recent video and the ones in the OP
and he really sounds like the most positively woke person

his slightly neurotic way of speaking about some of the issues and spontaneous raising of his voice really makes me sympathize with him and I think it adds to his genuine appearance

when it comes to sorting myself out, I quit taking antidepressants and continue cognitive - behavioural therapy working on my addictions, depression and anxiety and I'm finally beginning to notice slight improvements

I just attended 2 of his lectures in person these past few days in Ottawa and he's extremely easy to follow along with and keeps you entertained. Sometimes he would pause for 30 seconds to think - entire auditorium was silent and then hed go on and on again for 15-20 mins at a time.

I'm so glad that I attended

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoicism

I've only read the meditations (highly recommend the audiobook, it's about 5hrs) but what it essentially comes down to is: pay attention to what qualities (virtues) you admire in other people and the shitty things you dislike, and try to incorporate those values as a part of yourself. Understand yourself so you notice when you become angry or resentful at things you can't control (other people, life shitting on you). Always seek the truth and realize that we're all imperfect. Take pity on those who are unkind and unjust because you used to be those things once.

you lucky bastard

Why do people idolize e-celebs? Is it because, via Peterson, many anons are capable of fulfilling he goals they had always wanted to achieve, but never found the guidance? That's supposed to be your father who does that, not some guy you've never met.

He represents a voice of logic and reason in a sea of never ending leftist marxist idiocy.

We need more like him. The West needs more role models like this.

He isn't a solution, though. He berates "authoritarianism", not realizing the only solution to Jewish Marxist indoctrination is physical removal of Yids and Marxists, not giving the subverted more individual freedoms.

My father has been swallowed by a whale. He sleeps on the couch, rarely leaves home and just exists in a way. He does what he can do be my father, like fixing my bike whenever I break it, but I learned that I have to revivify him. Peterson is rather the wise elder, that gives guidance to the hero, like Gandalf, Dumbledore or Merlin.

So your father has grown indolent? That is a shame, do you live in the city? Not spending enough time with him because of the labyrinth of city life can do that. Or maybe you are a disappointment to him. Are you employed, do you have a degree? Are you married, do you have children? In short, have you succeeded at a worthwhile goal?
Or are you just waxing poetic for the sake of some cool fortune cookie shit so that you can make a Pinocchio reference Peterson makes. Define revivify without using figurative language. Is your father in a stroke? What are you talking about.

be positive user
Dr. Peterson frowns upon any negative thoughtforms, including the use of disparaging and racist terms such as: "Yids", "Jewish Marxist", "authoritarianism"

please refrain from such evil and instead use happy terms like: "Majestic Chosen Ones", "Masterful Leaders", "Magnificent Jewish Bringers of Light"

just sort yourself out

Keep up the /syo/ threads. Don't stop until everyone is sorted. Doing the lords work.

I'm attending university (computer science), but I'm slow. I managed to get a part time job and live at home, so I hope that will make him happy, but I'm a big, fat mess.

Man, he gave so much for me and my sister, worked long hours, sometimes he was away for weeks and I'm disappointing him big time. He is often very tired and got nothing to do other than watching Alex Jones and conspiracy videos. He wanted to win in life, but he raised disappointments, so he looks for the fight against something.

I have to get something done so I can repay him for everything and make his life beautiful again.

thank you wise person of gods chosen people, I'm sorry for all the suffering my forefathers caused your kin

Just imagine what kind of fragile, idiotic person you would have to be to protest such an incredibly smart and reasonable person like Peterson.
He doesn't even have any particularly controversial opinions, it's like protesting a teddybear.

>procrastinating again
JUST, autismcanadabro pls save my soul

>racist
>bad
There is only one solution to allow whites to exist in their own homelands, and that is the physical removal of the Chosen and those indoctrinated by the schools of thought they have introduced into the mainstream.

>but I'm a big, fat mess.
Jeb, is that you?
Well, that's a sad life. I hope you are given direction and if that's through a kosher e-celeb like this good goy Peterson, then so be it. Don't forget that this whole (((alt-right))) bit is a great gag to set up a Patreon and make money. That's what he did, actually. He's making quite a lot of dough from good goys donating their shekels.

Was it recorded?

how cringy

I wouldn't say he is pandering in any way. His messages are consistent and he fulfills the promises made on his Patreon. I can also see why he needs the money, because his lectures are really long, so transcription and subtitles cost a lot of money, which youtube ad revenue alone doesn't bring in.

>I don't like to get off my computer because I have to be around my fat useless family
You have to make a sacrifice and it should be something very important to you

alt-right bit?

I agree that alt-right is bullshit, but Peterson is nowhere near it

The new generation who indulges in "Gavin McInnes destroys feminist compilation #54" sure does eat his stuff up. Be aware that it isn't just phil-fags or failures looking for guidance who consume his information.

all up to date maps of meaning lectures, halfway through personality, essential interviews and debates -- that's what i have watched. I wish only i had these things when i was like 16-18 y\o, not 21

> some guy you've never met.
yep, sounds like my father

Didn't know there were a lot of niggers in Russia. Guess that explains your HIV rates.

like collapsing institute of family is nigger only problem, continue delude yourself that it is not of your business

Great English, Ivan. You're not wrong, but take some Rosetta Stone shit or something, damn.

>Have you made any positive changes?
Eating better and gave up caffeine. I've lost about 10 Lbs of the past month or so. Trying to limit alcohol to weekends. Started reading for pleasure daily again.
>What values are aligning your actions?
I'm... not sure. I feel like I'm drifting through life without a rudder.
>Set backs? Progress?
Incorporating the ideas of Peterson, Jonathan Haidt, and Yuval Harari I feel close to breaking out of the nihilism I've felt most of my adult life. Not quite there yet, though.
>Think this guy is full of shit and want to cut him down?
No
>Thoughts on free speech?
Following the Breitbart adage about politics being downstream from culture, what we are seeing on campuses and in social media is the rejection of the cultural norm of open and civil discussion. While this may not violate the 1st Amendment, once the culture battle is lost, laws will change to reflect the new culture. That's why I believe it's important to combat leftist memes like "freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences" and "you're not gauranteed a platform" before they catch on with normies.

>Gandalf, Dumbledore or Merlin
Mentor is the model

Do you speak a second language?

Yes.

And English is my second language.

>Have you made any positive changes?
Get up early instead of stay up late. Doing exercises in the morning and I'm now trying to structure my freetime so I spend less time in front of a PC (I already reduced my vidya hours to zero on most days).
>What values are aligning your actions?
Sincerity, I'm trying to be as honest as possible with myself
>Set backs? Progress?
I probably had a setback during the past two months because I had no structured daily schedule. I re-discovered Petersons lectures on yt and now I'm confident that I will perform better and achieve my set goals.
>Think this guy is full of shit and want to cut him down?
No, I have no doubt that he is honest about what he does and that he has straightforward intentions to help everyone to become a better human being
>Thoughts on free speech?
I agree with Peterson that free speech is the single most important principle in a functioning society to have rational dialogs to overcome issues and not drift into extreme ideologies or nihilism.

Holy fuck it even looks like him

>Protesters

protesting now officially has become a meme, good job dingdongs

There is no successful movement without a bit of personality cult. Abstract ideas are not attractive to the average person when they aren't expressed by some respected, well-established person.

You need someone to identify with. When he is telling his stories, he is also telling a meta story about himself, a genuine person that wants to make this world a better place, and just like in the lower level stories, people can identify with the hero, think about how they would have acted in these complex situations and then form their morals.

It's delusional to think that you can better yourself without having some kind of a role model, mentor or idol. Striving for pure values in impossible, since humans are imperfect and will fail. It's far better to strive for honesty by having honest people as role models and seeing how they overcame the obstacles instead of just seeing the peek of the mountain you want to climb.

>Have you made any positive changes?
Have been exercising regularly, am working on a creative project, talk to friends more often than before.
>What values are aligning your actions?
Honesty, mutual respect.
>Set backs? Progress?
Still dealing with depression and laziness.
>Think this guy is full of shit and want to cut him down?
No. He actually has good advice that could help everyone.
>Thoughts on free speech?
It's great, but one should be ready to bear his own words.

That is obvious. My point is that your characterization of Peterson as alt-right is bullshit, if not disingenuous.

I find several faults in Peterson. That is not one of them.

REMINDER

DO NOT CAST PEARLS BEFORE SWINE

His audience is, to a degree, comprised of the same kosher (((civic nationalists))) who name the SJWism but can't see it for the yarmulke that it wears. He, himself, is a tad bit more experienced than the typical Jewtube Patreon whore, as he is a professor.
I'm just kind of interested at what this who /syo/ stuff is and why people adore him. Seeing parallels in e-celeb adoration.

not an argument

...

Sort yourself out, marshal your arguments and pull yourself in order.

I find it hilarious how alienated massive faggots like you have to keep coming to these threads to project your insecurities and failures on people who want to discuss a guy who is trying to help people with those problems. The vast majority of user's here don't even need his direct methods of help, he is a brilliant thinker and it's interesting to listen to his ideas, why the fuck can't men get together and discuss ideas you fucking faggot, slay the dragon and save your father you degenerate.

Do not cast peals before swine either 2bh

IN THE UKRAINE THEY WERE MAKING POSTERS REMINDING PARENTS ITS WRONG TO EAT YOUR CHILDREN

...

In time you will learn the unimaginable pleasures of being sorted out.
