I think you need to google both of those words.
An apostate is someone who renounces their/a religion. A heretic is someone who tries to subvert the religion's values or beliefs from within with a splinter movement.
One earns you purgatory. The other earns you a burning sarcophagus, which will be sealed forever on judgement day.
