it was the ultimate psy op. go to the moon but fake the footage. you once have the adventage that you cant fail live as the "successfull mission" was filmed in advance. additionally you can absolutely proof you have been to the moon since you actually was. you part the people into 2 camps. one camp, which is usually the bigger one will believe the official narrative. the other camp sees the obvious fakes of the footage, just as in todays footage. these sceptics will say the moonlanding never happened since the footage is obviously fake. the government can now use the smaller camp to ridicule every other conspiracy theory among the larger group. "he believes 9/11 was an inside job, bet he also believes the moonlanding is fake" etc. maybe they even planned for flatearthers to emerge to ridicule conspiracy theories even further.
another reason could be that nasa is a sheme to fund black project, false flags etc. they say nasa gets 20 billion a year, but only gets a few million for fakery, coke and hookers. they make it seem like they do something expensive in space so the rest of the money can be used for coups, MkUltra, secret government spaceprogramm, and such things.
