The price of the car isn't the only problem or the only thing a smart person looks at. You also have to factor in maintaining said vehicle so even if Mexico started building your shitty BMWs and Mercedes they'd still be built in such a way only rich people would be able to afford them.

Chevy and Ford aren't entirely awful, parts are comparatively cheap when you look at European cars. Even domestic made aftermarket parts will kick your ass financially for a BMW or Benz.

Besides I drive a beat up old Hyundai and everything I've had to fix on it was pretty even compared to Toyota or chevy cars

They are completely awful though, and parts are so much cheaper because you're in the US obviously. Car manufacturers almost always subsidize their domestic market. The overall quality of Ford and Chevy (with a couple of exceptions) is complete garbage compared to pretty much any European car (even the Eastern European crap). They have come a long way. i30 is overall better car than gold or corolla, and cost fraction of the price. Their engines are simpler and more robust than the shitshow that come from VAG, nissan and renault or toyota, even performance is not that bad - yes you get lover power per liter than others new cars but engine will last. Look at taxis - only korean, there are magentis that make 700k km and drive on shitty fuel and subpar LPG system (if you don't know LPG fucks the engine most modern cars don't work good with LPG, ford for example don't have engine that can work with LPG for more than 30 years). Hyundai and Kia are the modern workhorses, if you don't remember reliability what made the german cars its name 50 years ago. Sure they have lemons but compact and midsize cars are great if you consider the what you pay.

If I had money for the car on your pic (50K usd?) I will get something else. I will not get car that looks like offroader but is worse than A4 allroad or other less SUV looking crossover and is just overpriced jag F-pace. Get the the jag if you want car like that it is 20% cheaper. I will personally get F150 raptor for that kind of money, at least it look like fun car and you live near usa and can get it.

Compare C7 Corvette to Porsche 911 at similar power output. Chevy is cheaper, as comfortable, as fast or faster, better fuel economy, better handling, and more reliable (GM Truck drivetrains are tough as balls, easily make 300K miles before major repair is needed.

I'm not familiar with bulgarian taxis but over here, its either a chrysler product or a ford, both have proven to be work horses no matter how shitty the car company.
To put things in perceptive here in the us, I can go pay ~17000 for a Soul that gets 27 MPG or I can for spend ~18000 and get an Impreza that gets 31-32 MPG (depending on the model) and can do more with it.
Corollas here are indestructible, they usually get traded in before they grenade.

I think that there are few nations, who made decent cars, Koreans have really stepped up game recently, Hyundai is now like jap cars of 80's (which were best), Italian cars still have soul and nowadays are actually more reliable than German cars. It's not that that they've improved so much (they have improved), but that Germans realised they could do French thing and make fortune on repairs. Also Swedes make decent cars, still more reliable than German cars. Definitely on the roll right now. Japanese have partially lost they identity, what to make (just look at recent Toyota squished look and Nissan abominations), Mazda still makes decent cars, they even finally fixed the rust issue, (more or less).
American cars, dreadful. Only Euroford makes some interesting cars, but not exactly most reliable, still probably best American brand out there.
