my one complaint with the movie is that the kids and wolverine were convinced that they'd be safe from lawless mercs by crossing a border in the wilderness.

The main villain's full name is Donald Pierce, which is a well established Marvel villain of the X-men as an anti-mutant cyborg. There were two distinct moments that were anti-trump propaganda though.

The white farmers that tell the black farmer to leave after they brandish guns. In truth though, I thought they were in the right because the black farmer was stealing their water for his crops and his defense was that he had a deal with the previous owners of the water source. The white farmers weren't actually threatening him with violence like a bunch of racists, they greeted him like "hello sir, what do you think you're doing?". They just showed up in a group, told him to stop stealing their shit, he refused, they showed their guns and told him he knows the drill to fuck off.

The other is that they're trying to escape into Canada, as if it's some magical bastion of safety.

The rest is pretty neutral though. It's not at all "Mexicans are superior" message with the kids. Logan straight up kills a bunch of cholos trying to jack his car after they greet him with a shotgun blast to the chest. Even the mexican who saved Laura straight up lies to Logan about payment.

If anything it just reinforces how much of a shitshow Mexico since the experiments had to occur in Mexico because they wouldn't fly in the US. The cyborgs, the mercenaries called the Reavers (also established), basically have open game on the US and Mexico because Mexico is supposedly the US's bitch at the time. There's even briefly a border wall shown. It doesn't treat the US as some fascist hellhole, seemed more wild west than anything. The whole Xavier issue definitely warranted a death squad because of how much of a fucking time bomb he was.

There was definitely propaganda, everything fucking X-men has propaganda, but it was still enjoyable for the most part.

Main problem I had with the movie was overthinking the consequences of X-23's super powers. Like what happens when her bones need to grow since they are encased in metal? do they just not grow or does she become a weird hunchback monster because her muscles grow but not her bones? It wasn't an issue for Logan because he was already an adult when he went through Weapon X. Also another thing, if adamantium was poisoning Logan doesn't that mean the same thing will happen to X-23 and she will die at a normal age instead of being like 200 years old like Logan?

Trump started doing well in the Republican Nomination polls in July of 2015, well before the first script for Logan had been completed. At first Sabertooth was going to have a part in the film and may have originally been the main antagonist. The Marvel Universe has hundreds and hundreds of characters to choose from. Principal photography didn't start until May 2016. It is not inconceivable that they changed the main villain in order to suit a political agenda. Why else choose someone so obscure for the main villain.

As an action movie, yeah, sure, the X-23 and Wolverine claw fighting looked way cooler now that they got into R-rated shit, instead of pathetic shit they've been doing in X-men and previous Wolverine movies. It was bloody enough to look legit.
Movie as a whole wasn't that good, in my opinion. It was far too focused on the Mexicans and making them look like a victim (except for the first scene where they are in their natural environment stealing rims). Professor X swearing and all that was a bit funny perhaps, but they didn't even offer a proper glimpse of the destruction that happened years before or what exactly happened to others.

It would've been way better with Old Man Logan's story, you'd know what happened to the old team and you'd have a better fight scene than one when you know what's gonna happen with he adamantium bullet the second it's shown. And they could've pulled a better X-23 than making her a half mexican, not to mention the fucking ending scene was cringy as fuck. Shame they didn't show the after credits scene where they get caught on the Canadian border and realise Eden doesn't exist

To be fair, I always felt that was a bit of bullshit in the comics. The fact that fishbowl manages to get one over Wolverine of all people was a bit absurd to me and the fact that he manages to tear through the entire team before getting stopped is odd. Numerous people on the team could have just dumpstered him.

They did however explain what happened to the team though, it was just in passing. Xavier's first seizure clearly killed the team and a fuck load of other people. They mentioned on the radio after the Oklahoma City event about a similar event happened in Westchester County (where X-mansion is).
