5–10 years ago this was the trendiest thing going. We had atheists all over the TV tearing into religion left, right and centre, and really criticising Islam's role in terrorist attacks.
What happened?
Obviously Christopher Hitchens died, but you never see Dawkins or any of the others on TV anymore.
We have a bigger threat right now than atheism/christianity, so people bonded together to fight the evil of islam.
Ryan Perez
All that can be said has been said. That's all. If there are still people believing in fairy tales despite all the evidence saying it's bullshit, the very long damage control history of religious institutions etc etc, there's not much that can be done.
Joseph Perez
Lukewarm convictions of armchair intellectuals could never compete with unceasing faith of religious believers.
Chase Lopez
SJWs took over the Atheist movement.
Aaron James
It went from being about critical thinking when it came to religion, morality etc. to being about slavishly following a new dogma and justifying your own shitty behaviour with it.
Joshua Robinson
Even atheists were sick of the new agenda of being pretentious dickbags about it. Personally, I came to the understanding that there is a lot to learn from the bible. It's a collection of metaphors and parables that can pass on the knowledge of society and how to be a good person, and that I can't just automatically disregard everything in it just because it isn't a literal truth.
TL/DR: Enough atheists learned some things from religion is good and militant atheism is obnoxious.

Let's face it; Atheism is so 2006. It's been kicked to the curb by everyone.
Atheists just can't get over the fact that they lost the culture war.
Let me take you under 18s back to the year of 2006: >atheism on the rise on the internet with their voices getting more heard everyday >atheist leaders like Dawkins, Harris, and (worst) Hitchens are respected voices in the community >r/atheism is one of the top boards on bleddit >corporate stores trying to push things like "Happy Holidays" and having "Holiday Trees"
Cut to today: >Dawkins, Harris, and (worst) Hitchens (may he RIP) viewed as complete psychos for their insane political/social views >r/atheism moved to the basement of bleddit because it was embarrassing euphoric garbage >things like "Reason Rally" draw less than a Hitler impersonator at a bar mitvah >atheist communities tear themselves apart over things like elevator gate (giving rise to New Atheism, and Atheism+, which are less successful than just regular Atheism) >constant rape and sexual assault allegations at atheist conventions (even atheist leaders like Lawrence Krauss are accused...by other atheist leaders) >"Happy Holidays" and "Holiday Trees" are a distant memory >liberal atheists in Britain crushed by Brexit
And quite frankly all this bad stuff wasn't even needed. All it would have took was one euphoric quote and a couple of fedora pictures. Christianity is still kicking 2000 years later, and atheism is at it knees because of a jpeg of a fat guy in a fedora. Sad
Luke Evans
Dawkins didn't criticise Islam as one would have liked. Even Christopher, himself, in one conversation, resisted for 15 minutes before finally acknowledging that Islam is a bigger threat than Christianity.
Sam Harris, Bill Maher (even though he's a massive cuck) and Ayaan Hirsi Ali are the only atheists who speak truthfully about the Mohammadan threat.
Isaac Lee

Hard to objectively criticise a belief system when you have cancer all around you believing all ideologies are equal and being critical of Islam is racist.
All the whites left in response.
They faded away waiting for something else worth memeing about. OWS rose and then died a similar death, with the progressive stack driving out the whites that were getting shit done and had a coherent narrative thus killing the movement.
Then the alt-right came along. The atheists get to hate religion (Judaism) the OWS refugees get to hate globalist jews and both get to shit on the world from a group that wont kick them out for being white.
Thus, the last few years.
Zachary Wright
Atheism is not an ethos. It's literally nothing. How are people supposed to live by that?
Cameron Jones
Because the Jewish stranglehold on society is weakening, and atheism is a jewish invention.
It should probably be noted that almost every single major figure in the atheist movement is Jewish. You could make a compelling argument that atheism is specifically being pushed by Jews in today's society, and they seem to largely be targeting western Christians and only them.
For example, Sam Harris, Chapman Cohen, David Silverman, Michael Newdow, Gregory Epstein, Sherman Wine, Bill Maher, Eric Kaufmann, and of course, Richard Dawkins's mother has a Jewish surname and was stated to have lived in the only Jewish suburb of the city she grew up in. But he hasn't explicitly named her religion.
But that's only a tiny part of the list. We could discuss the Jewish atheists who aren't pushing atheism so much as atheism-enabling political views like Marxism. For example Soklonikov, Trotsky, Deutscher, Lenin, Uritsky, Kamenev, Zinoviev and Sverdlov.
And what about atheist Jewish public entertainers that constantly run down Christianity? We can go ahead and recycle Bill Maher here and also include Jon Leibowitz, Stephen Fry, Woody Allen, Rob Reiner, Daniel Radcliffe, Larry David, David Silverman, and... I'm sure I'm close to the post cap, so rather than just name the rest of Hollywood, you get the point.
PURE COINCIDENCE though.

I'm an atheist, and I used to be pretty outspoken about it. But in later years I've realized that Christianity is part of our cultural heritage, and it doesn't really matter whether the god of Abraham exists or not. The Christian church should be preserved partly because of the relatively sane moral values that it has imparted on the practicing countries, but also because as an important part of our culture it should be treated as such regardless of what one thinks of it. Hence, I have no plans to leave the Church and I like Wittgenstein I believe that practicing the religion, like going to church, respecting the traditions and celebrating the feasts, is probably a healthy part of one's life even if one does not believe in the God per se.

>more people are atheists
Atheism is the fastest shrinking religion in the world. Atheism is in decline worldwide, with the number of atheists falling from 4.5% of the world's population in 1970 to 2.0% in 2010 and projected to drop to 1.8% by 2020,
Real surveys and statistics say atheism is on the decline worldwide. Sorry atheists but atheism is not on the rise nor is it winning. It's still the minority and a declining one at that.
The Pew Research Center's statistics show that atheism is expected to continue to decline all the way into 2050 with a continued growth of religion. Other research also shows a huge surge in growth for Christianity in China which is currently the world's most "atheist" nation because of the atheist communist government suppressing religion, the research suggests that China will soon become the world's most Christian nation within 15 years.
This is simply history repeating itself: Christianity prospered in Rome back in the ancient era when it was suppressed and it still grew in the militant atheist soviet Russia when it was suppressed there only a century ago with the majority of Russians today now also identifying as Christian. Just goes to show that atheist suppression of religion still doesn't stop religion.
Sources for the legion of whiny /Redditor/ fedoras that will no doubt show up it this thread:
What happened? It infected every major Western institution.

Most atheists hate Dawkins way more than fundamentalist christians ever did. He is basicly blacklisted on their conventions. As it turns out most of his suposed fanbase just wanted to shit on christianity, not on religion itself. As soon as he turned his critique against islam and feminism he turned into their Satan figure. Pretty tragic.

Atheism is still growing, but slower, because of muslims.
Owen Gonzalez
Most people grew out of atheism. It's only natural.
It's the Dawkins of the world you should worry about, as they're grown men who still believe in atheism.
Either that or they're all secretly satanists and are actively trying to turn people from God.
This I was completely onboard when the God Delusion and the God is Not Great were out and I had an account on Richard Dawkins website. This was right before the 2008 elections. I shortly realized that the atheism that was being fostered was more a political movement than simply a lack of belief in god. Every other fucking thing was >muh crusades as if they were still taking place
Looking back, it was embarrassingly sophomoric.
I'm still not religious but I'll never call myself atheist, if not just to avoid being lumped in with those children.

This, more or less. Atheism is more widespread than it's ever been, but half the atheists are dogmatic, left-wing extremists who treat it like a religion. The left more or less hijacked atheism.
Today, a lot of right-wing atheists would rather live in a Christian right-wing society, than a left-wing atheist society.

If North Korea is your measure of a "successful atheist" country (that all but deifies past dead dictators), then allow me to stay a European Christian.
Atheism is an interesting intellectual position, but it is morally, spiritually and ethically empty. If faced with a force like Islam, it cannot do anything but be toppled and die a forgotten death. Christianity, you like it or not, is the only force that kept Europe afloat in ideological war with the East, and still is.
John Wilson
And when atheist talk too much for the sensitivity of theists, here comes the

No. Attached is voting intention by belief. Notice how atheists and Jews are virtually identical.
If you allow people to think that atheism is acceptable you get moral degradation, communism, identity politics, etc. Things that directly enables Islam.
You should fight the enemy within with the same vigour that you fight the enemy without.
You might get faggots replying to this post saying 'hurr well I'm a red pilled atheist I voted for Trump', well how is that any different from Abdul from Syria saying 'I'm not like those other muslims, I'm moderate'? Stereotypes exist for a reason, and evidence dictates atheists are social poison.

Atheism is a pop trend that is declining, you're simply not the edgiest kid in town if you claim to be one. There's nothing more to it. Strong-willed people will stay true to their ideals and hold onto atheism, same way others hold onto their religion. Yet nonetheless, people in the west are being less religious. It's just the label "atheism" that is becoming less popular.

as someone who paid attention to the fall of "organized" atheist efforts into SJW hiveminds, the SJWs infected most atheist groups/places of discussion, and a lot of prominent atheist activists of various types were afflicted with constant promotion of stupid political ideologies alongside the barely related religious and philosophical ideas while the rest were silenced in various ways for not agreeing that one of the least sexist movements possible (literally against religious patriarchal structures) was somehow ripe with sexism.
the modern atheist movement started out as a secular movement centered on logic and focused on uniting atheists, but then a splinter faction formed within the movement advocating the usual feminist bullshit which demoted the point of the movement (atheism) down to a simple uniting factor not worthy of relevant discussion/activism anymore. SJW/feminist causes became the primary cause for these idiots, and rational atheists lost a lot of respect for many people overnight as a consequence of their re-purposing as SJW tools. the community collapsed and now there's just the remains of the movement barely animated by the feminists who hijacked it.
Jack Mitchell
Three simple steps: 1: Four horsemen / Atheist youtube movement fucks the Evangelicals and Creationist movements to death, unequivocal victory. 2: At this point they move on to a new enemy, which usually proves to be social justice or globalism. 3: We then learn that a lot of these atheist "leaders" are SJW uber-cucks that deserve nothing but scorn and mockery like the goatfucking theocrats they'd just finished destroying.
Asher Sanchez
Hitchens died.
Nothing kills a movement like getting exactly what it always wanted. Creates a reaction like a dog that catches a car.
There is more political representation of Atheists than ever. Atheism is less stigmatized than ever. Christcucks continue to lose power. Those that aren't becoming atheists are following religious beliefs that are harder to redicule than Jewish fairy tales. In the west specifically, there are more atheists than ever, although they're on the decline globally.
The fedoras were fighting against things like pic related which seem to have fallen by the wayside and they've lost their cause. They got what they wanted and what atheists found was that they weren't happy and politicians switched to giving Muzzies rimjobs instead of Christcucks.
Countries with high rates of atheism have low birthrates and are self-terminating themselves, while religious countries are more functional, despite the promises of atheism creating a better society. Immigration, which although supported by christcucks, is partially caused by the low birthrates caused by atheism, is causing social upheaval. Atheists destroyed the flawed Christian system and realized there was nothing that really was better than it to replace it.
James Jenkins
Funny how Sup Forums went the other way. It used to be religious as fuck 5 years ago and now it's pretty atheist.
Isaac Russell
Sup Forums is a Christian board.
Parker Nguyen
well i think this is actually going in the direction it was doomed to in the beginning or maybe even intended. Atheism is just not a creed to live by, but a lack thereof. By it's very nature it doesn't cause people to band together. I know a lot of atheists (myself included) and we don't really define ourselfs by our lack of faith. It's as if you made an organisation conisting of people who have no green eyes. You won't get a sense of community as strong as an organisation for people with green eyes.
atheism as a collective can only be a strong movement if all atheists feel threatened in their freedom by the same thing. If one country would try to push religion into secular public schools we all would have a common cause again. As it is now, the only real thread is islam and that's were the mere christian hating swjs that took over a large portion of the movement make atheists look like wimps

Atheist here.
Our mistake is we are not Darwinian ENOUGH.
The essential question is - why the fuck was religion a feature of every single successful culture in history? Presumably, every atheist culture was either destroyed in pre-history. We can also observe that the least religious countries (scandinavia) are the most cucked and susceptible to intimidation by those of stronger faith (pic related).
One must conclude that religion is a feature, not a bug. The beauty of it is that you don't have to ACTUALLY subscribe to it, unlike leftism, which seeks to rule you on a material level.
BTW, fuck you Buddhist. Your religion was specifically designed to perpetuate the most brutal and long-lasting slave society in history. So much so that communism WOULD ACTUALLY IMPROVE Tibet.
