A populist is a politician who does his fucking job, IE looks after the interests of the people he represents. He is not there to be an activist or save the world, he is there to make sure he takes care of his country so his people can prosper and live safe lives. Is it in the Dutch people's interest to be have their secular laws be replaced with religious dogma? Is it in their interest to have hundreds of thousands of people who are loyal to a foreign power? No? Then don't fucking mass import people who do want that, because it will only create tension and eventually conflict which will be bad for everyone.

Not being a populist means you're not doing your job, and effectively turns the country into an elitistic oligarchy, since only power hungry assholes only in it for themselves will flock to politics, these latter marry each other and reward each other through nepotism and use their power and influence to benefit the few instead of the many (while often paying lip service to higher ideals to fool the unwary).
