CNN BUSTED FAKE NEWS

Interesting how CNN says the laptop data cannot be erased while other news outlets say that it can be.

>FAKE NEWS!

>CNN article:
cnn.com/2017/03/17/politics/missing-secret-service-laptop/

>NBC article:
nbcnews.com/news/us-news/secret-service-agent-s-laptop-stolen-new-york-city-n734981

>Expecting honesty from any government organization

Not going to happen.

IT (engineer) here.

CNN is right. You cannot erase data remotely it's literally physically impossible to do so.

Unless you want to tell me that you can send protons to each of the electrons in the transistors, stop shitting in CNN.

Perhaps so but across the board it seems all other news outlets say it can be erased, CNN is blatantly lying. Trump really means it's fake news, made up. This is just the first time I've actually caught them in the act

WHO'S LYING?!

So everyone else is lying and CNN isn't fake news?

You're autistic. They talked to someone who told them it couldn't be. Other news places talked to people who said it could be. What does "remotely disabling" even mean?

Ending active sessions? Disabling its VPN access? Those are "remotely disabling", but don't remotely disable it.

Yes, and anyone who's taken college physics (aka not /pol) can attest to that

It can be encrypted. It can be encrypted as soon as the laptop is closed.

CNN says "cannot be traced or erased remotely
GOV says "self wiping and can be disabled remotely"
erased remotely and disabled remotely aren't the same thing

Still seems fishy bud

You are faking being an engineer
clearly they are suggesting a remote method to call for data erasure, nobody is suggesting remote death ray.

data is encrypted
file session keys are encrypted with each user key
user key is in memory until unit is put to sleep or otherwise locked out
in order to retrieve the user key, you must log on as the user, unlock the machine, or use a fingerprint
ether way, the user key should be removed and a request for the key must be made again according to the user password
if you attempt the password too many times, the user key is deleted and needs to be restored in order access the data
the file session keys can be deleted as well which would render the data irretrievable
unless the secret service uses outdated encryption, there is no practical way to decrypt a harddrive without the keys

I did communications security in the Army and we have devices that can do this. Some of our shit even needs a separate device that looks kind of like a clunky original gameboy that links up to satellite to generate the unlock code. Being IT in an office building with your basic bitch education and work load doesn't mean you know shit about the kind of equipment we use. There's shit we got I didn't even know existed until I saw it myself. Go jerk yourself off somewhere else "IT (Engineer)"

Keep telling yourself that cannon fodder

>Send protons

>CNN is right

>There are more advanced stuff than "IT (engineer)" knows about.

Governments has way more advanced security stuff for classified information than any regular Joe will ever see.
That's because companies need to balance expenditure vs profit. Gov can just spend and doesn't have to make profit.
In fact, spending too little on security can make a Gov official liable. Spending too much is just a budget issue.

How the laptop might have been designed: Hardware encrypted disk.
Require two keys - one from smart card and one built into hard drive.
If authentication fails a few times or tampering detection triggers,
burn the eeprom in the HD, making the key to recover info forever lost.

But how the laptop was protected is classifed info so CNN can't be proved wrong.

THIS
pxe boot
always on satellite internet
preboot disable program
Trusted Platform Module

>(((engineer)))
>wtf is hihg segurity

Very interesting.
Are you one of those Indian geniuses that gets in on an H1B1 visa?

Where was your AIT?

lmao. Contrived News Network.

news can be wrong without being fake you moron. It's fake when they're intentionally trying to deceive or mislead the public, in other words, when they're producing propaganda. This is not propaganda.

Data isn't ever erased, just marked as erased you fucking idiot leaf

>canon fodder
guy helps to keep you safe, you shit on him

u can't get any niggerer than that.

>America saved the Dutch during WWII
>proceeds to talk shit about an American

Delete yourself

>what is overwriting

Though interestingly, there may be ways to retrieve overwritten data

dumbass
>wtf is write "0
>wtf is DoD secure erase 3 overwrite passes

You must be a poo

It is because it's fear mongering, CNN suggests sensitive data that could have national security implications could be leaked or hacked

erased ≠ disabled

CNN gaslighting for "Plausible Deniability" when something happens to Trump Tower?
