If it were me I would have sold all my shit long ago, and taken my money with me to another country. I don't see why this is such a hard decision to make, but I guess some people get very attached to THINGS instead of people. I am not one of those. I'm not materialistic by nature, so I can't comprehend their behavior. Putting myself or my family in danger is absolutely not a fucking option, period. Above all else, their safety and my own are paramount. If I didn't have the mental fortitude to foresee this outcome and I were in their position, I would at least attempt to sell the things I couldn't afford ship or bring with me, and then I would leave.

This is all of course hinging on the fact that the situation is indeed as bad as people are making it out to be. I don't actually live in that society, so I can't gauge how bad the actual situation is for the local white populations.
