The biggest problem is that multiple cultures together at once is a recipe for disaster. Different cultures have different values, like African cultures versus western cultures: in Europe it is a crime to have sex with someone below 18 or 16, while in Nigeria it is perfectly legal to fuck an 11 year old. It is also a cure for AIDS to rape a toddler in some areas of Africa.

Multiculturalism as a term covers ALL different mixes of cultures. It's like asking if ALL foods taste good together. In the similar way there's a wide variety in different cultures. Some of them are more compatible with each-other and some less. As long as there's variety of cultures that are physically capable of mixing in a location, multiculturalism won't work. Cultural habits sit really deep in people and we know an unfortunately big portion of them are willing to violate civil rights of those who disagree.
Multiculturalism is an inevitable phenomena that eventually leads into a "world government" spearheaded by advancements in locomotion, technology and informational interconnection. But that's not the argument for multiculturalism. The argument for it is based in colonialism, as a means of assimilation. By "allowing" interactions to take place in a cultures expansion with the aboriginal population the cultures can become more harmonious in the relationship to the state. This is interculturalism.
Marxist ideas are critical of a privileged authority using its expansion of the state to create an environment for interculturalism so that the dominant culture controls the means of production. Therefore the individual ethnicities must be diversified in both representation and direct control of the state. But what happens is that conflict is created by celebrating those differences do to intercultural competition through jobs. The tension that is created can lead to sectarian violence.
Therefore, if domination from a select cultural group permeates power in a state they can create a system that keeps different ethnicity in line, if the different groups were allowed to compete and encouraged to do so (such as Germany, one of many examples) ethnic tension can lead to conflict.
