Firstly, they absolutely do get hired for rote unskilled labor positions.
More often than not its janitorial stuff, basic construction/painting/renovation by contractors (this one is big where I live), and other jobs where more bodies at cheaper price means more profit for the guy in charge.
The problem is those are all jobs that normal people could work and in a normal economy would be entry level job positions, but now those positions are essentially dead. Because for one person's normal wages you could hire two illegals AND not pay taxes on their wages or give them any benefits.
And that's how they take jobs. As a normal American citizen you can't compete with someone who is willing to work for less than minimum wage paid under the table tax-free. You shouldn't have to, that's one of the reasons why minimum wages exist in the first place, so that companies can't "race to the bottom" and fuck over the workers.
There are contractors in my area who don't even try to hire actual citizens anymore. They get a contract, put together a work crew of illegals and rake in profits.
And until doing that gets the contractor thrown in jail for 20 years and his pack of rats deported permanently, more and more will do just that.

I've been on Sup Forums since LAPD roasted Dorner, but by all means go on thrashing and screaming "rebbit" because that's what you've been conditioned to do.
Now looking at the financial realities of the US, minimum wage as is is insufficient to afford rent working a standard work week. The cost of living in some states is such that an individual would have to work over 90 hours a week to afford an average apartment at local rates.
Keeping all this in mind, you're suggestion is that the best way to combat jobs going overseas is to remove minimum wage requirements so that US companies can subject workers to the same wages that people in third world countries make.
Your idea society is one where Americans are forced to work extreme hours at wages laughably insufficient to afford any decent cost of living, trapping a large portion of the country in poverty. You want to make American labor "competitive" by dragging it down to significantly lower standards.
