What's happening is a combination of outsourcing, offshoring, and massive immigration.
They're getting double-fucked by jobs disappearing from the country and the ones that remain are given--by policy preference--to brown people, with compressed wages. Not only that but these brown people coming in are a net drain on the system. They don't pay in, they take out.
Those jobs that left the country? Still in demand but the corporations profit more by using sweatshop labor. The idea they try to sell you on is that you get products at lower prices but that doesn't matter if you're not making money and isn't even true anyway, products still cost about as much. It's just the corporations make money hand over fist doing it this way. They'll also try to say they couldn't make any profit at all if they didn't do this but it really makes you think how people like Henry Ford were able to get rich while paying his workers enough to live off of and still be able to afford his vehicles.
This is why I'm in favor of governments forcing companies to stay in the fucking countries if they want access to the market of that country. It would probably work too since moving your operations to a country where you're part of an ethnic outgroup and being based there and having to sell to only that and other markets that would have you probably wouldn't work out so well for them.
It's obvious that what's happening doesn't benefit the country and normal people, so I don't know why governments wouldn't do this unless they're bought and paid for by corporations and other special interests..
