How do you get diagnosed with something like that and why? What difference does it make whether or not you know you have an imaginary ailment such as "high functioning whatever syndrome"?

That's simply the official diagnosis. High functioning autism, also known as aspergers, is basically mild autism. People can still live normal lives if they're high functioning, but aren't born with social skills and need to learn them.
Low functioning autism is on the opposite spectrum where it's more severe and the autist is non-verbal and has screeching meltdowns. They can't live normal lives. It's such a wide spectrum with different severities and levels of accommodations depending on the person.

How do you know it's genetic rather than environmental, or don't you?

Because if someone in the family has it, it's very likely at least one of their siblings or another relative will also have it

I'm just curious because I was an extremely outgoing child, and became pretty much an Asperger type into my adulthood. No one in my family is like me as far as I know.

Same here.

For me I think it was due to bullying+isolation

When will you stop fucking your uncle, Stephen?

There currently is no test for adult autism

Where did you get diagnosed? I have HFA but it's self-diagnosis only

Definitely more genetic than environmental. There's more evidence that autism's origin comes genetic mutation that causes the brain to be wired differently than a normal person's.

Is your aspergers the reason why you thought this thead was appropriate for Sup Forums ? Cause that would certainly explain it. sage

I'm not Stephen.

I was diagnosed when I was in 3rd grade when my teacher noticed I acted differently. Met a specialist and was diagnosed. Then I got IEP accommodations throughout K-12 such as extended time and separate setting for tests.

I see. How old are you? I'm in my late 20's and none of my psychologists picked up on my autism, you're lucky.

Do you focus easily or are distracted?
Do you feel good daily or depressed?
Are you good at math/logic?
Are you incapable of understanding body language?

I have it too user, I also have non-verbal tourette's. the worst is knowing that although I'm a decent looking, athletic, reasonably smart guy, nobody wants to be my friend and no woman wants to date me. I can interact with people for a while but it takes a massive amount of effort

Honestly just wanted to post here because I like Sup Forums better than other boards.

I be 22.

>bullying+isolation
Yeah me too. I never really had kids my age bully me, but I had a teacher in middle school that did. I stopped talking to everyone after that, and now I don't even really know how to socialize with people. Like I have to remind myself to make eye contact and think through every single word I say. I'm sure I don't have Aspergers, as I wasn't this way before. I think it's the result of isolating myself socially for years.

hello newfriend
>I like Sup Forums better than other boards.
Yeah i'm with you on that but i'm just saying you could easily have framed it in a political manner, so it wouldn't be so sage-worthy. "is there a correlation between autism and political inclinations?" and so on and so forth

When do you guys shoot up your first school?
Is it a traditional thing?

You sound autistic tbqhwyf

Do you know how to tell the difference between Gifted and Aspergers , OP?

I may or may not be on the spectrum but that's beside the point.

>Do you focus easily or are distracted?
I don't really get distracted unless my task is boring. I know it's common for autistic people to also have ADHD, but in my case if I get distracted it's for the same reasons normal people do.

>Do you feel good daily or depressed?
I feel good most days, but I guess it's because my life is pretty simple at the moment. I graduate this summer, and I can imagine once I start getting a job and live on my own all the depression everyone here has will start kicking in. But I still have a very loving family and awesome friends, and I know in the end it's my responsibility to nurture those relationships and make the best out of what life throws at me.

>Are you good at math/logic?
I'm average. It's a pretty common stereotype, but not all aspie's are into math/logic and some are even really bad at it. Usually the case is autistic people are extremely good at one thing, but suck at everything else.

>Are you incapable of understanding body language?

Maybe just the very subtle ones, but I've been adapting to social cues and body language pretty well lately. I was completely blind from social cues back in middle school and early years of high school, but through enough practice I learned them.

>INTJ
>agoraphobia
>depression
That's how I got my diagnosis. I figured that I would be able to get into disability employment programs and the spergbux helped but it turns out that the government programs do nothing but recommend that you go to counselling and you have to fight with social services to keep your welfare flow stable to the point where you become a career beggar.

The advice I'd give to the gifted is to just suck it up, get a dead-end hospitality/retail job and learn to act like a normal person. This is more important than any formal education.

I have never used or owned a gun, so I have no idea what the tradition is, but from reading the news I can guess that all the shootings are from the bratty autists who choose not take responsibility for their lives and blame their misfortunes on everything but themselves, so they take a gun a kill the things they blame. It's like an angry 5 year old tantrum, only way more deadly.

I do. Gifted simply means you have talents that most people don't have. Aspergers is a form of autism and is a mental disorder. You are not gifted just because you have a mental disorder. I do think it's BS that people with disabilities are put on a higher pedestal much like SJWs do with women and minorities. However, much like normal people can be born with talents, autism people can be too. There's also an interesting thing called savant syndrome, which is when autistic people are born with superhuman abilities such as Rain Man did.
