Britishness is a syncretic international identity. At the height of the British Empire, all people belonging to the Empire were legally "British Subjects" so that no distinction was made between Australians, Englishmen, Indians, etc. Obviously this had to end when globalization allowed the easy movement of large numbers of people. The govt needed to distinguish between British people and "British" people. The fact this distinction exists shows that there is another prior identity on these isles, which we call "Englishness". Englishness existed long before the idea of "Britain", in fact many were opposed to the idea of Britain. When James I unified England and Scotland and inscribed on the coinage Ezekiel 37:22 "one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations" many English people were outraged, and did not want to belong to this new "British" identity. Just read George Chapman's Eastward Hoe written in 1605.
My opinion is that you must either be of the view that Britishness as a category must be tied to race, therefore only white Britons are British, or if you believe that one can be black or Pakistani and British you must therefore be fine with the idea of white Britons becoming an ethnic minority.
Any position in between these two polar opposites are logically unsound. Why?
If you hold the view that a black person can be as British as a white, how can you then complain if for example the black outnumbers the white? They're just as British.
If you think it's unacceptable that white Britons should fall bellow 50% of the population, how can you articulate this complaint without reference to race?

Two white Britons move to Saudi Arabia and have a child. This child is raised to speak Arabic, practice the most extreme interpretation of Islam, and has no idea the UK even exists. One day the government says that children of British citizens can become citizens of Britain. Is this young white jihadi really British? A Black man who fights the white jihadi above and dies for Britain, after a life of public service and respect for his way of life and British culture. Is this Black man less British that the white jihadi?
It's difficult, especially when you are confronted with questions like "is a three quarters white person British?", how many generations of purity do you need etc. Such things are impossible to define and argue from logical principles, and that consistent rational way has never been the English way. The English have never started from legal axioms and proceeded to the individual case, the individual cases infer the principles of law, this is our system of common law. So I think in that spirit a pragmatic stance ought to be taken. People implicitly know that Black people are "less British", in a non specific or definable way. Because civilisation and Englishness are not things to be defined, but to be experienced.
If asked "what's the difference between a Somalian Muslim and an English Christian if they were both born here and they're both citizens?", then "you know the difference" is a valid reply.
